I'll be needing new tires soon and looking at US prices (and the exchange rate), it seems likely that I'll end up across the border.

Any favourite spots in niagara falls/buffalo/rochester? I looked in google and there seems plenty of choices just beyond the border.

Some say that finding a Tire Rack authorized installer in a border city and then ordering from TR to have them delivered there is the cheapest and takes advantage of TR's wide choice of tires.

I have no personal experience of this as I prefer to shop in Canada.

I'd second the Tirerack suggestion. They have "approved" installers in most major US cities who will accept drop shipments and do the installation. Dollar was at 99.23 last time I looked! Grin

I'll third the Tire Rack suggestion.  I saved over $300 the last time I ordered tires.

Discount Tire in Michigan. However, there are no Discount Tire dealers in NY.

When I'm comparing prices I convert to CDN,add in the freight, receiving depot fee,add HST , for allow for fuel costs for the 200km round trip and compare that to the tire cost in Canada. I don't allow anything for my time and really even the fuel is questionable as my wife usually has a list of things she wants from the US grocery store that aren't available here. If we want anything from LL Bean or any of the other US online retailers we try and order that at the same time as well because freight is often free within the US but not to Canada.

Belle Tire is also a very good option assuming there are any in these areas. Better selection than Discount Tire stores.

That was the total cost.  I drove to Vermont to visit the in-laws and had the new summers installed on the Saturday.  Price included installation.  Didn't pay customs fees and the exchange rate was at parity when they were purchased and installed.
