Can anyone recommend a good tinting place in the KW area?

Also what amounts should I be looking to tint?  What is legal?

AFAIK anything is legal as long as the officer can see you. There's no % in the HTA. So it's at the discretion of the officer who pulls you over. Of course you can always lower your windows..

I would highly recommend Image1 (Colby Drive, Waterloo).  They did the FormulaOne ceramic tints on my WRX and I'm very pleased with the result.  35% looks nice to me.  But really depends...if you want a really dark look, you could try 15%.   Milan is the name of the guy there and he does a lot of the tinting work for the local car dealers.

I used Kar Rite (Victoria St, Kitchener) for the Mustang and was also happy with the work they did.  But they didn't have ceramic tints...just metallic.

I don't want anything too dark. Just wondered what the norms are for still being able to see out easily at night?

You'll have no problem with nighttime visibility with 35%.

When (when my car actually arrives) I will probably go with 30% as 35% is a little too light (for me)

I had 28% on my SS and it was at times tough to see at night.

My understanding of tint laws in Ontario is

1) There is no law against darkness
2) Tint on the front window is not allowed
3) You aren't allowed to restrict view to the inside of the car. So technically this would be tint. I do know someone that had to remove their tint because of this. Or so he says.

I'd start looking at something around 20%-35%.

Here is what the law says in the HTA -

No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver’s seat has been coated with any coloured spray or other coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside the motor vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 73 (3).

That means it's the cop's discretion on whether he/she's vision into the vehicle is obscured or not and there is no restrictions for the other windows behind the driver or passenger.

35% on the side windows and you will never have a problem with the PO PO.

I would always recommend 20% on the rear window and 35% on the sides.  20% on the sides is just too dark at night.  However, 20% on the rear window will adequately defuse headlights behind you.  Don't have the side windows done in different % tints as it will lower your trade value.

I am actual thinking about not getting RR3 tinted.

I went 2 weeks before I got mine done on the GTi and hated it. Long hwy drives with the sun beating in the windows were more tiring than when I had tint. I'll never go without tint in the future.

To add to the stats....I'm using 35%.

Whatever turns your crank... I have never considered tinting windows on any car.  Just don't like the look of it especially in that one is not allowed to do all the side windows the same.

When the sun beats in I just crank up the a/c... which I normally have set to 18C anyway.

I have an Outback wagon, the side and rear windows are tinted (side including the rear seats, but not the front seat sidewindows).

The kids and dog appreciate it on sunny days.  Cuts down the AC load a bit.

I've got 35% tint on the TL (ceramic).  I have no idea of it's properties compared to the metallic tint, except that the metallic version interferes with SATNAV receivers.

I've got Formula One tint on the TL, and my wifes Odyssey, and previously had it on my Civic SiR.   Never had an issue with fade, peeling or scratching.   Good stuff and worth the money.

We have 35% the 330i and the TSX. I think its too light, because we have light interiors. However, if you have black interior, then 35% should be perfect.

I'm with you. Dad has had a couple of vans with factory tint.
Other than hiding from the ignominity of driving a minivan I won't bother.
