Talked to an agent today that said their company deals with a couple firms that will insure modified bikes and cars, but it's done on a case by case basis.  I make a list of the mods, and submit them, and they either refuse coverage, or come up with coverage and a premium.

When he heard "Hayabusa" and "turbo" it took him a minute or so to stop howling with laughter.  Funny for him, but an omen of things to come for me.

I really do want to ride the bike on the street, but it might end up being a track tool.
No place I'd rather be...

You know what would really put some hair on your chest?  Riding the ModiBusa on the street in short, flip-flops and without a sissy helmet.  That would give a big FU to the insurance companies.

Do you blame them? I don't.

If I was getting into the insurance business, the last bikes I'd want to insure are sport bikes...forget about modded sport bikes.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

He probably saw a Ghostrider video or two.

Everything has a price though. And yes, I get the effects of adverse selection..

A 350hp motorcycle that will go from 0-100km/h in less than 2 seconds, 200km/h in about 5, the quarter mile in the mid 8's,  and come close to 400km/h?

What could possibly be dangerous about that?  Sounds all fun to me!  If I ran the insurance company I'd insure it, but demand a chance to ride it...

I think if they insure you your Insuance card also serves as an organ donor card.

Some of the best things in life are the most dangerous.  My doc says it's called "sensation seeking" and people live along a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the craziest base jumping nutcases that do something life threatening almost every day.  Taking his test, I rank as 8.5 on the scale.

I've got work to do.  I was always a perfectionist.

Is that a psychiatrist? I think we should all take that test.

Nah, my family doc, but he works with a lot of "extreme athletes" like climbers, base jumpers and others.

Next time I go, I'll ask to take that test.

The one I filled out was based on the Zuckerman scale, but modified.  The standard Zuckerman scale is for a range of people, not just people that participate in certain sports.  It's simple, but been used for a long time, and he's the guru of "sensation seeking" research.

completely off-topic.

so I looked up the Zuckerman scale (regular  -- haven't found the actual modified one) and being a former-climber - I don't think it has very much relevance.  And I would put good-technical-fast-drivers in the same category as climbers (just to try and throw a bit of on-topicness)

The scale rates high for impetus behavior - exactly what successfull climbers generally are not.  They might be thrill-seekers but they are not foolhardy.

Like Will Gadd uses as the title of his presentations .. "What Could Possibly Go Wrong" .. meaning -- you think ahead about what could go wrong, figure out if you can manage the risk -- and then goferit.

I think if they insure you, your Insurance card also serves as an organ donor card.

After a certain speed, it really doesn't matter if you are in a car or on a motorcycle. In fact there are times when you are far better off on a motorcycle. I can remember at least one.

I think that a lot of this is because our day-to-day lives are not dangerous; we aren't fighting for food or survival, so many seek out dangerous recreation instead.
