$6500 off Subaru Tribeca
« on: March 02, 2010, 09:44:37 pm »
My friend is looking for a CUV/mid-sized SUV. He is very much looking into the Highlander and Forester. Then he realizes Subaru is offering $6500 off any 2010 Tribeca cash deal. Man, it's value.

Talked to different dealers. The slow-selling Tribeca suddenly becomes a hot item. It's now really hard to find a basic trim in Ontario.

I'm sorry but I bet even the basic trim was likely hard to find before the cash incentive; dealers must have been trying to avoid stocking that CUV at all costs. I actually can't remember the last time I have seen one on the road.

Definitely hard to found. I only remember seeing 1 'Becky on the road.

maybe Subaru will sell a re-baged Highlander as its replacement.

Very few of them on the streets here, not surprised Subie has to do something to move them. I wonder what's the problem, it can't be that poor of a vehicle? Too pricey?

Non attractive pricing and even less appealing frontal, just a wild guess.

I see a fair number on the roads around here. I'd guess most of them are US imports. Nicely equipped for 30K seems to make them a lot more desirable than the 40K+ ones on the dealer's lot here. ;)

There are a surprising number of them around here, at least 2.  And I see a fair number of them on the highway but when they got their new front, they blend in even more with the rest of the crowd.

And according to the Subaru web site, the cash discount is $6,750, at least for BC, using the build it function.  Covers the taxes and fess but still leaves it at $40,174.40 with no options.

If you need the extra room over the Forester, then it would be worth looking at but if not, then the others your friend is looking at would be just as good.

I like it, but won't pay the premium for one.  The Forester offers everything we need in terms of utility, and is $10K or more less, so I think most Scoob-nuts just pass on it.

So, that leaves non-Scoob buyers.  Well, that's a tough market, and Subaru has little or no brand recognition in it.  They're just not a player compared to the Pilot/Murano/MDX and on, and on, and on.

Base model for $29,995?  Much more interesting.
No place I'd rather be...

Absolutely. My daughter intended to buy a Forester but when we saw the base Tribeca's at the US dealer it was a no brainer. It was a great buy for 33K CDN landed here on the road but 46K tax in for a CDN base model ...not so much

Yes, a 2008 Limited. My wife drove them all before getting one an we owned a Highlander before. Expensive? Yes! Worth it? Yes!*

* this is is based on our personal opinion and I will not respond to negative remarks as I have no interest in escalating the mindless rantings that have turned this once proud automotive enthusiast site in into a retirement home full of cranky complaining bunch old old facking men. I'm going for a drive and will exced the posted speed limit by more than 50 kph  :stfu:

Not that I'd ever likely buy a Subaru, but I am one of the few who actually liked the original Edsel-style horse-collar front end. But it was sadly overpriced.

I suppose it is not a bad SUV. It is just not a very good SUV, compared to Santa Fe, Pilot, Highlander or even CX7

If the function of the AWD is important to you (and it is for some of us that drive in very difficult conditions) then the Subaru is the choice.  However, the majority of drivers don't know one AWD system from another, and couldn't care less anyway, since the Safeway parking lot is the toughest place they drive.
