Nope.  It wouldn't start in the cold temperatures.

Two of the three support vehicles were diesels for the drive, they had no problems starting as long as we added anti gel to the diesel to prevent it from "freezing".  The temperatures were not extreme, but on the pre-drive we hit -35 and again had no problem with the diesel support vehicle.  We did not plug any vehicle in at night.

How was the overall comfort in the veh. ? By this , I mean , was it comfortable to sit in this car for the 6-800 km's driven per day.
Just curious

This is a great stunt by Mercedes, but it's also a fantastic series to read about on CanadianDriver. Great job!

Interesting story.  As an NWT resident who has driven most of that route, I would have to say that the Smart car would not be my first choice for the trip.  That they all made it was fairly impressive, even considering the 'off road' adventures that some of you had.

My only other comment is that your spending all of that time driving up there, and not spending a day to look around, or even better drive the 'ice road truckers' winter road route up to Tuktoyaktuk (about 3 hr each way), was a shame.  Since you went to the effort to drive the road, it would have been nice to see what was there before you leave.
