....or should that be "Mini Minor" Annoyance  My wife mentioned the other day that the "fasten seat belt" logo on the dash was lit and the chime wouldn't stop. Turns out that her purse sitting on the passenger seat was enough to trigger the alarm. I also noticed this coming back from the convenience store another time. A bag with Two 2litre cartons of milk and a bottle of coke was enough to set off the chimes. Seems way overly sensitive to me.

In the Corolla, the system has two weight settings. The first is quite sensitive and sounds the seatbelt warning chime (as in the Mini in the OP), but the airbag defaults to "off." The next is at ~75lbs, where it turns the airbag on.
True, it's a PITA for putting stuff on the passenger seat, but the system is common-place now. |

I've never seen one chime when something is put on the passenger seat. The warning light comes comes on indicating the airbag is off. At least that is how all Chryslers work and my Acura TSX works. |

We live in New Brunswick,not TO or Vancouver. I knew a lot of people in NB who just left their keys in the car (not in the ignition) and never locked the doors. With a brand new mini, you must live in the Moncton area. Quebec City or Halifax is a bit far for an oil change.  |
