....or should that be "Mini Minor" Annoyance  Wink

My wife mentioned the other day that the "fasten seat belt" logo on the dash was lit and the chime wouldn't stop. Turns out that her purse sitting on the passenger seat was enough to trigger the alarm. I also noticed this coming back from the convenience store another time. A bag with Two 2litre cartons of milk and a bottle of coke was enough to set off the chimes. Seems way overly sensitive to me.

Same as in our CX-7. Just buckle up the passenger seat belt, the car shuts up.

Oh,I know, but how hard would it be to have a sensor with a reaction threshhold of 70-80 lbs instead of 15? Huh

It's probably that way so you don't leave your little kid in the front seat with the airbag on.

In the Corolla, the system has two weight settings.  The first is quite sensitive and sounds the seatbelt warning chime (as in the Mini in the OP), but the airbag defaults to "off."  The next is at ~75lbs, where it turns the airbag on.

True, it's a PITA for putting stuff on the passenger seat, but the system is common-place now.

I've never seen one  chime  when something is put on the passenger seat. The warning light comes comes on indicating the airbag is off. At least that is how all Chryslers work and my Acura TSX works.

It is probably safer to put the purse on the floor out of view than on the seat.   It could tempt someone to smash and grab at a stop light.

I knew a lot of people in NB who just left their keys in the car (not in the ignition) and never locked the doors.  Grin

With a brand new mini, you must live in the Moncton area.  Quebec City or Halifax is a bit far for an oil change.  Tongue

I hear you. When I have my Pug Lucy in our Yaris the chime starts to go off and I need to buckle up the passenger seatbelt. Yet, the senser in my HHR is not as sensitive.
