good place to get metric bolts/nuts - Toronto Area
« on: January 30, 2010, 08:46:51 pm »
I have 3 honda's at home and am doing some DIY repairs and was thinking it would be nice to have an assortment of metric bolts/nuts instead of going to the dealer for a specific one and paying quite a bit..

Just wondering if anyone may know of any places to get this..

thanks

Home Depot for one used to have good selection in many TO locations, perhaps they still do.

Not around the corner, but you can order what you need. I have and shipping costs are not even worth talking about. Of course I usually buy a box of 100 if it is a common fastener. I have dealt with all three.

Spaenaur..order one or order a box. Toll free number. They are in Kitchener.

Fabory-Metrican...usually minimum quantities. click on their Canadian site.

Thanks a lot for the info/links.  This is what I wanted, so I will check them out.

I have checked princess auto and TSC in my area, they both don't have metric sizes or have very few of them.

I didn't check Homedepot/Lowes, maybe I should.

Surely for a car you'll want specific nuts and bolts. That is specific certified grades not just any old metric bolt.  That faborymetrican site certainly has bolts to all the various grades and specifications.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Very correct.
So many bolts and screws for cars are very specific, be it overall length, amount of thread, head size, grade, etc.    Some are normal off the shelf, but in a lot of cases about all  you can do is get the exact one you need, either from a parts car, or from the dealer.
Sometimes you have to get a longer one than you need and cut it to get the right amount of shoulder for the appication.

Definitely.  Some mission critical part like in the engine or suspension for example, I wouldn't be doing any substituting, but if you are replacing something that holds the dash in place for example, then a generic bolt or nut will be fine.
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow - who wouldn't love the internal combustion engine?  ;D
