With the - temps we have this could be a good thing  ;D
http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2010/01/29/honda-recall.html

The problem is in the power window mechanism, which could allow water to enter and cause components to overheat.

The company said it would notify customers by mail once it has a solution. For now, customers are being advised to keep their windows rolled up during rain or snow.

They recall all those cars after one death?  And a total of three cars caught on fire. That's taking the precautionary principle a bit too far.
They don't say ( that I can find) how many switch failures have been reported.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Ford has a commercial in which they claim their quality is as good as Honda & Toyota. Perhaps Ford should aim higher :stick: :P

I think given the situation with Toyota, Honda is going for public brownie points and avoiding future litigation.

There's a news flash...."don't drive around in the rain with your windows down...it's bad for electrical controls to get soaked with water"  ::)

I've seen a number of Hondas with fire extinguishers mounted on the A-pillar.  Those owners must know something about the power windows before the recall.  :)

Too late .... it hasn't been as widely publisized but this problem has already claimed a life, a child in fact, in south africa.  The funny thing here is the Honda problem has occured more often (and is comparitively more likely to happen) than the defect in the Toyota.  But... you haven't seen quite the rush to condemn Hondas wrongs that you did Toyota (possibly because the one reported death didn't happen in the US).  The scary thing is again it is surfacing that Honda knew of this problem long ago and did nothing.  This has scared my wife so badly (we own one which she drives every day often with our 16mos old daughter) that she refuses to drive it until its fixed (she already had an incident where the window controls got wet (rain) and ceased to function for a few hours).  I was willing to overlook the fact that the gas tank in this car is located under the drivers seat.  I was also willing to overlook the 14" wheels reduced quality tires and smaller brake pads (because its a honda really how bad could it be?) I am not willing to overlook their neglegence in creating a potential fire trap.  Honda you have lost us forever.

Because of a one in a million chance of a fire happening, if you're careless enough to drive around in the rain with the windows wide open?

That's a bit extreme, no?

And LOL at "smaller brake pads". It's a small car, bud... ::)

:iagree:   I can put up with the chance of a 1:1000000 fire and those brakes pads sure do work and I REALLY like the gas tank under the C of G of the car. Improves the handling and enables a lower load floor.

As for one reported death 1/2 way around the world... I wonder how many deaths have been caused in Fits in crashes?  probably more than 1.  Life is hard and then you die.

No more extreme than parking one's toyota becuase of a 1 in 1/2 a million chance that your car accelerates when you don't want it to.

What a completely assinine statement.  My wife stopped for one minute at a Tim Hortons drive through.  A few rain drops hit the controls and they ceased to work for a few hours.  The Service manager at the Honda dealership where we get the servicing done and have done with our past 4 honda civics (that never gave us a problem, which is why we kept going back) gave us a heads up months before the official recall that they knew it was a problem but they did not have a fix for it then and we were told simply to "be carefull".  He also admitted that we were not the only people to complain about the brake pads or tires wearing prematurely. They had recieved a memo from Honda corporate warning them to expect complaints and that they (dealerships) could offer a better grade replacement at their discretion (service admitted the oem parts were of a diminished quality).  So I suggest that before you go spouting idiotic statements like that you could try asking for some clarification.
