Camry wheel cover question
« on: January 26, 2010, 10:22:52 pm »
I slid my car into the curb yesterday and the steering started to vibrate like crazy. Took the car to the dealer and he replaced the wheel and did alignment. The car drives ok
He did not have the replacement wheel cover in stock and ordered replacement. I said ok. Later he told me the cost is 92$. I think thats a little crazy for a wheel cover given that the wheel itself was cheaper.
Can i call them and cancel the order? If yes then where can i find cheap replacement covers

Have you paid for it yet?   Regardless, call and cancel.  They might hit you with a 10% restocking fee.

If yes then where can i find cheap replacement covers

You need just one right?  Wrecking yard.  However, LE had numerous versions so a direct match will take some foot work.

You can also buy a cheap set of 4 covers at Canadian Tire if you're not looking for a Toyota specific cover.   They have them on sale from time to time.

Or Wal-Mart specials.  Got a set of 4 for $35 for my winter rims (16").  Smaller sizes are cheaper.  They are brittle and will eventually break (after 4 years, only one of mine broke and came off), but for the price, I don't think you can really complain.

OE wheel covers and centre caps are ridiculously expensive, as you found out.

Just my take on this but for $92 I think the time/gas money you will spend looking for a aftermarket replacement (which may cost about 1/2 the $92??) will make the entire exercise ridiculous. Additionally, I have had experiences with aftermarket wheelcovers that do not fit as well as OEM covers.

Only you can judge what your time is worth; and I guess you will always have the satisfaction of "beating" that damn dealer..... ::) ::)

If you saving hundreds of dollars, I could understand. But this case...???

I'd try Logel's in Kitchener - -they usually have a good selection of late model stuff.
