Steve, if you are a car enthusiast, why are you annoyed every time a driver's car is made and is a big success?

I'm not annoyed, but obviously you are since your bringing it up.   :)

Lutz claims everything is a smashing success whether it is or not.  That's his job.  6 months ago the Malibu was a game changer, but in reality it's been a huge sales disappointment; Camry, in it's 4th year, and new Fusion are destroying it.

I've pointed out why the V6 is not doing so well and that the V8 Camaro is readily available in the US and why it's going to be relatively short lived.  The convertible might save it, but then there is the 2011 Mustang to ruin it all.

It's a great effort, but wrong time obviously.

5-6 years from now the V8 Camaro will be a smokin used car deal and just about the right time for me.  :)

The new Camaro is clearly retro, designed to evoke memories of the famous '69 Camaro, likely the prettiest Camaro ever. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Those are the msrp's of the V8 models.  Why is this news  ???

What do you think Lutz is trying to say; that the V8 Camaros are selling for 8-9 k over list?   His babble refers to the fact that GM anticipated that the Camaro would go mainstream vis-a-vis the V6 where the grosses would be lower.  Well it hasn't and it's not going to.  The convertible may correct this, maybe, but the V6 is a dud.  "It's the economy stupid".  Besides the 2011 Mustang is gonna kill it.

As for the V8, there certainly is a long standing pent-up demand for it, but that will subside.

Anytime Lutz starts revealing internal data to hype a vehicle or in this case GM's "profit potential" you know it's just not going well.  Malibu and CTS , case in point.  :)

I still think going retro on the Gen II would have been better, but hey, the Camaro is selling.  I bet a lot of people drive the V-8, and buy the car.  It's just crazy powerful.  BUT, even if you aren't a Camaro "person" go have a lok at one, and perhaps we're seeing some of the GM future.

The details.  Look at the door side mirrors.  Wow, that's design work.  The shut lines and panel alignments are perfect.  GM?  Ya!  The interior could be better, but is gawdawful in pics, and better in person.  With the driveline this car has, not sure they could price it properly in the US and have an Audi-like interior.

There are so many things so right about the Camaro that have nothing to do with the Camaro and more to do with the direction GM could be going.  Put some of that design work into their compact cars (with intoxicating details) and I bet they'll bounce back.
