The other difference between the Edge and the MKX is that "regular scheduled maintenance" is included in the price of the MKX......my parents have just ordered their new 2011 MKX (they currently drive a 2008 MKX).  My brother has an Edge and the MKX is much smoother riding and significantly quieter than the Edge.

Is it? I'm waiting on my factory order and I've seen no mention that regular maintenance is included in Canada. In the U.S., I know it is. Ford has no problems denying Canadians access to virtually all Sync Services so I would be pleasantly surprised if they gave us this perk.

When I was comparing the MKX to the Edge Limited, there were a LOT of additions on the MKX and with employee pricing and delivery allowance, it didn't make much sense to me to purchase the Edge instead.

Also perhaps of note, I've found that US on-line sellers of extended Ford warranties will sell valid in Canada ESPs to Canadians at significantly reduced prices.

Maybe Lincoln has changed the policy regarding scheduled maintenance for the 2011 model, but I know for a fact that my parents have "never" paid for a service on their 2008 Lincoln MKX as it was all "included" in the price, just like a BMW.  I'll have to check this out with our local dealer tomorrow and get the 411 on this point.

• No-Charge Maintenance – 1st two scheduled maintenance visits (2 years / 32,000 km)
http://www.lincolncanada.com/pdf/brochures/12010_en.pdf

Thanks. For me that will probably mean a couple of free but questionable oil changes and a tire rotation. Americans get something better of course: "For the first three years or 45,000 miles, Lincolns will be eligible for no-charge servicing including oil changes, replacement of brake pads, belts, hoses, wiper blades and other wear items."

I'm new to the Forum so I hope I'm doing this right. I'm interested in the comment made in a post yesterday regarding  U.S.  online sellers of Ford ESPs that will sell valid in Canada warranties to Canadians. I noticed that U.S. prices are way cheaper for ESPs but the three companies I contacted replied that they can't sell to Canadians. I am currently waiting on my factory order of a 2011 MKX Limited and know that i will need an extended warranty due to the mileage i put on each year.

Welcome to the Forum and yes, it appears you are doing it right!  I would also be interested in this U.S. ESP in Canada as my parents have just ordered their new 2011 Lincoln MKX.

As far as I understand, LincolnCanada keeps changing the terms of the "no charge maintenance" offer.
In 2008 in Canada it was first four years or 80,000 km,  then for 2010  "1st two scheduled maintenance visits
(1 year / 24,000 km)" and now as I posted for 2011MY 1st two scheduled maintenance visits (2 years / 32,000 km).

And, I was just informed by our local Ford Dealer that the first two-included service/maintenance MUST be performed by a Lincoln Canada dealership and not at our local Ford Dealership.  The closest Lincoln Dealership is over 3-hours away and this new 2011 MKX would be the 4th Lincoln vehicle for my parents.  Hmmm, I'm not sure if this is going to sit well with them as they have been dealing with the local Ford dealership for over 40-years.  Maybe they'll decide not to get the new Lincoln and go with something else from the competition (even though they have loved all 3-Lincolns).

Sounds rather stupid.....better check with Lincoln Customer Relationship Centre 1.800.387.9333 see if there are solutions for Lincoln owners such as yourself not close to Ford/Lincoln service centres.

Ontario in general seems a bit weird like that.

I had a rental LeSabre that pooched it's alternator. The only GM dealer in town had Chevrolets and Oldsmobiles. They wouldn't touch it. The closest Buick dealer was quite a ways away. The rental company eventually delivered another car, and towed the LeSabre.

That's more typical. Don't know what that dealer's issue was.

Personally, if I loved the car, I'd schedule two short vacations and get the first two service jobs done as they ask and then never look back. If they are only so-so on the car and they want to look elsewhere I totally understand that too.

They may want to look at the Ford Edge if they have a good rep with the local Ford dealer. The Edge is really quite impressive on it's own.

I don't think 2 free oil changes would sway me one way or another. I mean, they cost what, maybe $100 for the MKX? That's $200. Even if you're not able to take advantage of those two free oil changes for whatever reason, is that really a good enough reason not to buy a vehicle? I don't think so.

What I don't like - both the Edge and the MKX are not AWD vehicles. At least, not permanent ones. They are FWD and only send power to rear when slip occurs. Ford wouldn't reveal that little bit of info when I asked. Now, I'd like to know the speed limit. If you're on the highway doing 100 km/h and you hit a patch of black ice, will the "PART TIME" AWD engage, or at that speed will you be a 'permanent' FWD?

In my personal experience... black ice doesn't care what you have as your power train. Even proper winter tires not likely to make a huge difference with patches of that stuff. Other situations undoubtedly useful like snow covered roads and that sort of thing.

Not sure what the part time AWD restrictions are. Never read a limit for any cars that I've looked at.

checked MKX by myself last nite, very impressive indeed. I would chose MKX over RX or Q5 or FX or same size MB. I wonder what lease rate is going to be in 3 days after current 0% offer will expire.
