2011 Lincoln MKX
« on: January 12, 2010, 02:11:37 am »
Lincoln has rediscovered luxurious interiors:

The exterior is the baleen-inspired love-it-or-hate-it looks.  I kind of like it.

In mechanical news, standard horsepower is up to 305 hp; torque to 280 lb-ft.  Six-speed auto is the only transmission.  It does have manumatic shifting, but through a rocker switch on the shift knob instead of paddles.

Gadget-wise, the main news is a big touch screen on the center console that helps keep the number of buttons and knobs sane.  Hopefully the interface will be friendly, but we're dealing with Microsoft here, not Apple  ;D

It looks great indeed. I love the tail lamps (totally disliked the old ones). I still don't like the Lincoln grill, but it fits better on this car. The interior is excellent.  A true competitor for the Lexus RX350.

They did a good job. This grille looks better on the MKX than on the MKT.

Looks like a power liftgate.

Wierd! I don't recall seeing such a setup on other SUVs with power liftgate.

It's a power liftgate.

Chrysler uses a similar system.

I'd have to say the grill alone would remove it from my short list.

Wow I can't believe the size of that flag pole!  :surrend:   ;D

Otherwise it looks very promising, just like the Edge does too.

I think the new look is great. A lot better then the first version (2006 to 2010 which I thought pretty plain). Though because of the style it's definitely a love it or hate look for sure.

The interior is nice.  But the exterior doesn't do it for me at all.  The word fugly comes to mind...

Save a ton of $$$ and just buy a fully loaded Edge.  Same vehicle underneath, and much better looking.

Nice interior. Wheel to wheelwell proportion is all wrong. What are those wheels 20S? They still look lost in the wheel wells.

What is with this trend towards big chrome grilles Acura, Lincon Buick? Blah

Yeah, that seems to be a bit of a rage now, doesn't it? I wonder if it will take off?

Save a ton of $$$ and just buy a fully loaded Edge.  Same vehicle underneath, and much better looking.

Yep - looking at the Edge too. But with the Employee pricing you're not saving a 'ton' of money. Lincoln is offering a $3000 delivery allowance along with the employee discount, whereas Ford is only offering a "$1000" allowance so you're 2 grand closer. You also get a 4 year, 80,000 km bumper to bumper warranty and 6 year / 110000 km power train warranty with the Lincoln. It's only a 3 year / 60,000 b to b and 5 year 100,000 powertrain with the Ford.

Also, one other point, the Edge is NOT the same Vehicle unless you get the Edge Sport (as only the Edge sport has the 3.7L V6 305 hp engine that the MKX has, otherwise you get a smaller engine (3.5L 280 hp) with the same gas mileage.

So, to compare apples to apples (a fully loaded Ford Edge Sport to compare against the Lincoln MKX to put the Edge in the same league) it's only going to cost you (this is MSRP to MSRP with applicable factory rebates currently being offered) about $2600 (or approximately 6% difference) and for that 6 % you're getting the Adaptive Cruise control (I priced this in - it's $1500 less if you don't want that - Edge doesn't have it as an option), the THX II certified sound system and the extra warranty coverage. Edge comes with 22" tires though.

You also get a MUCH better interior with the Lincoln over the Edge (at least from what I've seen of a 2010 Edge which did not impress me - the 2011 could be a lot better).

Of course, if you compare the bare bones Ford Edge then you're right, but it's not even close to being the same vehicle (other than the platform it's on) at that point. A basic FWD Edge with all the options available you can get for 30 grand. But yeah, it's not even close to being the same vehicle (but there's nothing wrong with it either).

The grill on the MKX is definitely different though and though I like it I can see people hating it. The back end of the vehicle looks fantasic and is a huge improvement over the existing models. The Wheel wells look OK to me in pics but I need to see this vehicle up close in person before passing any final judgement (in person I might feel the same way about the looks as you, and end up with an Edge, or keep driving what I'm driving now and forget the whole thing and save a ton of cash :) ).

The other difference between the Edge and the MKX is that "regular scheduled maintenance" is included in the price of the MKX......my parents have just ordered their new 2011 MKX (they currently drive a 2008 MKX).  My brother has an Edge and the MKX is much smoother riding and significantly quieter than the Edge.

Is it? I'm waiting on my factory order and I've seen no mention that regular maintenance is included in Canada. In the U.S., I know it is. Ford has no problems denying Canadians access to virtually all Sync Services so I would be pleasantly surprised if they gave us this perk.

When I was comparing the MKX to the Edge Limited, there were a LOT of additions on the MKX and with employee pricing and delivery allowance, it didn't make much sense to me to purchase the Edge instead.

Also perhaps of note, I've found that US on-line sellers of extended Ford warranties will sell valid in Canada ESPs to Canadians at significantly reduced prices.
