I think these cars are sporty enough to satisfy your driving pleasure.

I think CR-Z’s 9.7 second number is fast enough especially for a 1500cc fuel sipper.  If you take the “green” incentive given by the government into consideration, price will not be so bad.  Besides, you will feel good by being seen in the driver’s seat in one of the latest green cars.  I would rather be seen in one of them than in a black and noisy Acura with a fart can.

An excellent question. And I am sure one that many Civic Si buyers will be asking.

Just another example of how incredibly far Honda has fallen. Really tragic. Not that many years ago they were probably the finest engineering company in the automotive world.

wow you guys are harsh!!  visually i find the car to be quite attractive from the exterior.  where it falls totally flat is in it's performance.  mpg is not outstanding, acceleration is average, co2 probably hasn't been much improved over my original crx and it still only carries 2 passengers.     in 20 years you would think they could improve these numbers exponentially.  why they made it a 2+2 for the rest of the world and a 2 seater for NA is one of those mystifying marketing moments you probably don't want to delve into.  the only department that has "improved" has been the safety features which ultimately added all the weight at the expense of all the other categories.

Exactly it is heavy  because of those features. It reminds me of the threads of a couple of years ago concerning the Fit and the Yaris. The Yaris was seen as not competitive because it didn't have 12 airbags didn't have standard abs etc. Which car was lighter ? The Yaris,therefore it was better on fuel.

Difference being that the Aztek was a sales dud and is usually derided as one of the ugliest cars ever made.

The Century, however, is the ultimate Toyota in the home market, has been in production is various forms of tremendous ugliness for something like 40 years, and is the ultimate automotive status symbol in Japan.

Ummm. The Insight was also the number one selling car in Japan after it was launched last year.

It didn't help it in North America. The Insight achieved something like 25% of sales targets in NA.

I may very well be ignorant - but I do not get this car. At all. I'm totally lost on it. What is supposed to be? Other than being a hipster, why would I buy it?

I just think that a small two seater should be good at something, be it lightness, sportiness, fuel economy, chuckability, acceleration etc.  You remember, everything that an MX-5 is good for...  But this thing doesn't tick any of those boxes?

You hit the nail on the head. The looks aren't bad, and certainly wouldn't keep from considering the CR-Z if there was anything else to make it an attractive choice.

the 7000 japanese people.....ummmm kids who have alrerady bought this thing probably have a plan, bring car home, strap turbo on the engine, remove those heavy safety related parts out, pull those pesky hybrid batteries out, rip those tiny back seats out, add sport suspension and voila the new crx!    spinners are optional.

+1, absolutely. My own maximum is 7 seconds, but no matter. The point is, 9.7 seconds is epic fail territory.

I also take issue with 'selective reporting' to prove a point. Lets take this important example, shall we? Because a Miata is considered very 'sporty', if always a bit on the underpowered side. " Mazda Miata… 10.7 seconds". I know these are 0 - 62.14 MPH (100 kph) times, however.....

According to car magazine reviews, a 1994 Mazda Miata does 0-60 in 9.7 seconds. That's 16 years ago. A 1996 Mazda Miata does it in 8.7 seconds. A 1999 Mazda Miata does it in 7.9 seconds. That's 11 years ago.

And finally, the CR-Z is an unmitigated pile of shiet until they put a proper motor in it. If they know how to do that any more? And I don't think they do. Furthermore, I think Honda is so afraid of torque steer and lost in how to deal with it, that they would rather go out of business than produce an engine which can pull hard from low revs. Which happens to be where everybody (but fart can kids) "live" in day to day driving.
