With the pricing of the Fiesta with common options, which has been noted as being pretty high, will that car sell now that this one is on the horizon?
I think so, because the Focus is going to be on the higher end of the price range for compact cars, just as the Fiesta is on the upper end of the price range for subcompacts. If you want best-in-class chassis AND an excellent interior AND a good powertrain, it's only natural that you're going to be more expensive than competitors that don't deliver all of those things.
It will be interesting to see just how well Ford does with the new Focus. If I'm not mistaken, the old Focus was a decent seller for Ford, and it wasn't because it was an astounding car.
I wonder if all the people who bought the old Focus simply because it was decent, cheap transportation will be so keen to pay extra for a "best-in-class chassis AND an excellent interior AND a good powertrain."
I hope I'm wrong, but I can see Ford losing the old Focus buyers to Hyundai or Kia, while still not quite having the ability to attract the Honda, Toyota, VW crowd with the new car. It will be interesting to see if North Americans really are ready to pay premium prices for a premium compact from their local Ford dealership.
