So:

Heavy snow and icy roads are causing chaos across most of the UK, where Met Office severe weather warnings are in place as the "deep freeze" continues.

Hundreds of schools closed, many roads are hazardous, and buses, trains and planes have been delayed. Several airports have suspended flights.

Wind chills of -10 to -12 at Gatwick wow!   All those 50 year old uninsulated ex council houses in Crawley a few miles south must be pretty nasty tonight this week. I was brought up in one and they were freezing in a regular  winter there.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

They need a bigger server...

To meet the current high demand, we have switched to a lighter version of the site. The main difference is that the map has been disabled. For live traffic information visit the Traffic Flows and Disruptions Search sections.

Please accept our apologies for the disruption to service and be assured that we will re-instate the full service at the earliest opportunity.

Called my folks this morning....everything is literally shut down. London Gatwick Airport is shut. They're expecting another 20cms today.

No one has any snow tires, or decent snow shovels, and people are being reduced to sprinkling kitchen table salt on their garden paths etc. There are snow ploughs but I'm not sure how experienced the drivers are in this kind of operation.

I think the local media covering Toronto had a more dire reaction to the first real snowfall of the season with a mere 10 to 15cms.
