OE XM/Sirius receivers subsidized?
« on: December 31, 2009, 09:21:00 pm »
With so many new cars coming from the factory with XM or Sirius radios, I was wondering if the manufacturers are absorbing the full cost or is it being subsidized by either XM or Sirius, or just passed on to the buyer?   Obviously, the receivers themselves would be an additional cost, plus the actual antenna, etc, etc...

Anybody have any insight?

Judging by the cost of a Sirius or XM receiver bought at FS or BB I'd guess the incremental cost  of the hardware fitted to a car is <$50  possibly less than $10. But there may be licencing fees paid by the radio manufacturer to Sirius/XM
