Heffner Toyota (Kitchener, ON)
« on: December 30, 2009, 11:51:43 pm »
Even though the oil looked good for at least another 1000km, or possibly more, it was the 5000km interval, so I've decided to take the trix (03 toyota Matrix) to the dealership for an oil change. Even after 150K clicks on it, it didn't burn a single drop of oil, so it deserved an dealership service, besides, the trix is the first car that I've truly loved, so I couldn't trust to those pirates who forgot to put in a new oil filter(!) again..

Long story short, it was a very pleasant experience, they quote you for an all-in price and in the end of the job you pay whatever you're qouted for, and to top of that, their prices, imho, are really reasonable. I've been quoted $97 for an auto trans fluid exchange, and $87 for the coolant exchange, including the parts, taxes and everything..

I don't think I'll go to an independent, or an franchise garage for the basic maintenance anymore, I think these guys got it right, as long as they don't screw this up, they got me, for the rest of my life.

By the way, it's been almost three months with the -new to me- Toyota Matrix, so far it's been Krown rust proofed, and got all of its fluids changed. It has the same driving perspective and utility of an CRV or RAV4, but drives like a car, so it has the best of the both worlds I guess, I really recommend it for budget used car buyers.

I have also heard good things about this dealer.

Good to hear you have found a dealership that you trust. As long as you aren't being ripped off in your opinion.

"I couldn't trust to those pirates who forgot to put in a new oil filter(!) again" - That's how I feel about dealerships. Heck, that can happen at an independent shop as well or may be the wrong size filter (you would find out when it falls out).

As long as you are happy, keep going there.

Personally, I don't trust dealerships. They try to sell services that are not in my owner's manual under the "Severe service" schedule such as an engine oil flush (not needed). Just another cash grab. My mechanic only goes by the "Severe service" schedule and does his usual inspections of the car.

I'm more comfortable going to an independent as you get to know the owner and his mechanics and they become familiar with your car and watch out for stuff. I've been going to him for about 4 years now.

At a dealership, I feel like I'm just another number.

That's a big city dealership for ya, in little Cornwall the dealership experience is awsome.

Even after 150K clicks on it, it didn't burn a single drop of oil.

Well I hope not.

It only has 150K kilometers on it.

Mine has a lot more, gets oil changes at 10K kilometers or more and doesn't burn a single drop (OK, maybe one single drop) between oil changes.

But north of Toronto you probably could find small dealers, no?

North of Toronto is kind of a hike. My father and brother take their cars to Autoniche http://www.autoniche.ca/ which is in Markham (north of Toronto).

However, I find it more convenient to go where I already go which is at Warden Ave. and Sheppard Ave. E. (north of the 401).

Just curious, what is the expected oil usage on your 993?  I think the manual for my 911SC says 1 liter per 1000miles.   It goes up higher than that with track usage.

That must be a carbon copy statement in all owners manuals of German vehicles because my BMW motorcycles also state max 1 liter / 1000 kms...except that is a limit...not the norm.

In the ~2000 kilometers I put on the 993, it didn't use any oil worth talking about unless you call a quarter cup a concern. Same goes for my air cooled motorcycles. Anything air cooled will usually consume some oil due to the required tolerances.

The Honda CR-V uses absolutely none in over 10K oil changes.

How about yours?
