You can be confident that heads of the heads of corporations do roll in China.

Their CEOs have no problems killing themselves for failures:

http://www.nowpublic.com/chinese-ceo-kills-self-after-toy-recall

If they won't do it themselves, the state will do it for them:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/11/24/china.milk.execution/index.html

Talk about people being held accountable for what they do...   so refreshing.

Executing the odd person doesn't really help, there is still far too much corruption and bribery.

I never found parking a problem until we got Boxcar Willie, the minivan. It's utilitarian as hell (I get to help my daughter move this very weekend), but awfully damn cumbersome. All my previous vehicles I could parallel park in an overturned packing crate. This thing, I can hardly ever get straight and centred on the first try. Teeny-tiny lots and parking garages don't help with the mile-wide turning circle. I'm moving to China to live as a woman.

Living in a place where corruption and bribery are common and accepted is a good incentive to get promoted to a level where you are the one being bribed.

As for wide parking spaces... has anyone attempted to park in a UK parking lot recently?  I doubt a regular NA minivan would fit at all.

My pick up does not fit into 1/4 of the spaces now

I remember faintly in the late '70s in TO when they made the length of spaces on the street shorter as the 20' long cars of the early '70s had mostly rusted away but, as a small car driver, I don't remember parking lot spaces getting narrower.

Exactly, that's why I wasn't specific.

That's one of the things I love about Canada, the parking spaces are HUGE compared to the UK!

In the UK you often get dinged by people parking too close, especially as cars just get bigger and spaces are made smaller to generate more revenue.  And if you don't believe me, read this:

How many of today's larger cars would fit in a 178cm (70") wide parking space with enough space to open the doors properly?  Especially SUV's.

Funny that. Reading Consumer Reports today I see 2010  M-B E-class and Audi A6  are both over 70" wide. I presume that is mirror to mirror with the doors shut.

Die like the kids with kidney stones during the milk debacle in China?  Or like the people who took contaminated Chinese-made heparin in 2008?  Or like the thousands of pets who died from Chinese melamine-laced pet food in 2007?  Please, take your pick.  I stand by my original statement.

You have massively missed the point. Is it a bad idea on its merits or is it a bad idea because a Chinese came up with it? Have you even thought about the merits or did you note that the plan was put in place in China and thus came up with a negative opinion on it?

And for the record... I am the LEAST prejudiced person you will ever meet.  Ask anyone who knows me, or any idiot who's made a bigoted statement in my presence.

If you're the least prejudiced person I'll ever meet (pretty ironic statement), then everyone I've ever met is a massive :censor: swerver.

I take offense because it demeans women.  The Chinese are very good at that, as are many other cultures.  What next?  Special lanes for driving with PMS, or banning women from driving altogether?

And I was laughing at Wink's timing with his comment.  Chill, buddy.  Happy New Year.   :)
