Winter Floor Mats for 535xi
« on: December 22, 2009, 11:54:28 am »
I have my boss's 535xi and I noticed that he doesn't have winter floor mats in it......dirty, dirty all over the nice tan interior. Looking to purchase some for him and have them fit well in the vehicle. Is the best place to go the dealership or is there better aftermarket options?

P.S. - this car is sick! I am in heaven.....for a little while anyway.

BMW branded mats are good... I had those on my 3-er.   If WeatherTech has 535xi specific mats they'd be good as well

They have 5 series. Is the floor different in the xi?   In my car the floor was different and therefore so were the mats.

As an aside; that Weathertech co. must be selling a shatpile of rubber mats to afford 5 pages of advertising in C&D, R&T month after month after month...

Personally, I'd get the OEM mats (unless they're fugly or too expensive or something)

I have the weathertech mats in my TSX.  Me no like.  Don't look good IMO.  I think you get what you pay for.  And they slide around and are *not* a perfect fit.  Picking up OEM mats next time I'm at the dealership, even though they're relatively expensive (which is why I originally didn't want to pay for them).  Now I'll be paying more.  :P

Good point Air.

I'll see if I can find Acura OEM mats from the States for a good price too...

Is the best place to go the dealership or is there better aftermarket options?

The best place to go and buy from is where they have mats that look like trays. That are hard plastic trays that have a wall (not just a lip) around the edge. That type of mat holds the water and slush within the tray.

Back in the 70s we sold them at VW. They were custom fit, grey and made in Sweden.

Pants Savers and the like are useless. I have them, but I have a double layer of 6 mil vapor barrier under them with the edges sticking up around the mat by at least 5 inches. My ten-year-old carpets still look like day one.

I've never been impressed by what the dealers sold that were factory branded.

What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

My girlfriend got me Husky heavy duty floor mats for my car in black. Very impressed by them. I had Weather Tech ones before and they remained flexible in the cold (-30), however they didn't hold the water too well.

Both WeatherTech and Husky Liners make those: they're called floor liners, as opposed to floor mats.

We've had Husky floor liners in both our Xterra and Suburban, and they are outstanding. I'll never go back to floor mats (even the expensive ones) again.

Edit: here's a link to a set of WeatherTech floor liners for the 5-Series - http://www.weathertech.ca/store/mvproduct.aspx?ItemGroupId=52&VehId=1376&Year=2008

Sorry to say, but neither will those unless you stay parked.

The trouble will all mats including Pants Savers is that they will overflow during the slightest lateral Gs. I always laugh when I see the Pants Savers ad on TV when they pour water into the mat to show you how it holds water...till you take a turn.

Looking at that WeatherTech link, there doesn't seem to be a "wall" at the rear of that tray. The rest of it looks good though.
