I've been a "Plus" member for many years.  I've rarely needed their services but they've been there when called.  Their regular services - maps, discounts, travel planning,... have saved me money and effort time and time again.

My Wife called CAA this morning. She (how do I say this delicately...has a lot on her mind, you know, Law, Tax, Judges, stress, dumb-ass Husband...) left her keys in her truck overnight (again... ::))
CAA was called and 7 minutes later was there to open up the door.
Great service. She always gives them good tips too! Maybe that helps.

You let a tow-truck hack near one of your vehicles with a window wedge and a slim jim? Yikes. :o Time to get  your wife a magnetic key holder for underneath the truck...

Yes, not once, but 3 times now. The 3rd spare key has been discussed already this morning.

What happened to the first two spares?    :D

We have CAA and have found it to be just fine.  We use the other services more than the roadside part, such as home insurance, travel planning, hotel savings.  Well worth the cost for us.  Hate the magazine though, it goes straight to recycling.

But having that roadside assistance is a great confidence booster when traveling lonely highways, especially for my wife.

When my dad passed away in 2002, he had been a member of CAA for 46 years IIRC.  He never called them for a tow or anything (he was a mechanic) other than Triptiks for me to go to Florida. 8).  But membership cost was cheap then.

So when I cancelled his subscription, they called me back later offering me a "good deal" because of my dad's long membership, etc..  I said no thanks.  I'm 50 and never got stuck on the side of the road and if I need maps, Google is great and free.

I might reconsider if I end up traveling on a frequent basis or winterize in the south when I retire and for the hotel rebates.

I have a CAA credit card.  It earns CAA dollars which can go towards the annual membership dues.   I suppose if you use it enough, you can pay off your CAA membership with CAA dollars.

Although I have never belonged to CAA or any other roadside assistance club, I do belong to GWRRA and have for 6 years.  For those that don't know, it's basically a social club for Gold Wings and other motorcycles.

Along with membership they offer towing within 100 miles, and for about $25 extra, they also will include any vehicle in your household.

Driving a Subaru, a Honda Fit and a Honda Gold Wing, I never really expected to need their services and viewed it as a bonus.

Well last summer we had a flat coming out of Redding, Ca.  Due to the slope of the highway shoulder and the ass-end of the bike being low, I couldn't put the sidestand down so had to ride it about a half mile to an exit.  There I called the 800 number and within less than an hour the bike and trailer were on the tow truck and off to the nearest Honda dealer.
Two hours later we were back on the highway, minus a few bucks for a new rear tire.

It was cheap insurance and something that I will definitly renew every year.
If god didn't want us to eat baby animals, he wouldn't have made them so tastey.
