2010 335i coupe

EDIT June 13, 2010:  Recent pics.  Here: http://www.canadiandriver.com/forum/index.php/topic,65109.msg652734.html#msg652734

*********************************************************************************************

EDIT Feb. 1, 2010:  She's finally home...  Pics: http://www.canadiandriver.com/forum/index.php/topic,65109.msg627206.html#msg627206

*********************************************************************************************

EDIT Dec. 18:  It's been confirmed!!! - I got the Monaco Blue one from Vancouver, and it's on route!!  This is how I feel now:   :fall:  (finally!)

*********************************************************************************************

EDIT Dec. 15:  Even though I ordered Dec. 5, it turns out I missed the production deadline, as BMW's factory is not producing any more coupes in Feb. 2010, when my car was scheduled for production.  :(

Will have to make choice between:
- 2010 on lot (not to my specifications); OR
- new 2011 model (will have some new goodies, but not as good to me appearance-wise)

********************************************************************************

Update: Jan. 27, 2010.
- Car still delayed - sigh!
- But got 335i M Sport Coupe as loaner until my car can be delivered to me.
- Loaner impressions start here: http://www.canadiandriver.com/forum/index.php/topic,65109.msg625664.html#msg625664

ORIGINAL POST:

Hi everyone,

I've missed you guys.  :)  (Knocked out of commission health wise the last time I posted, then I got far behind on the posts...  anyways, I'm fine and I'm back now.  :)

Sorry - no pics yet!  Car not produced yet.  Probably Jan. production, with March arrival.

********************************************************************************

Process was simple; probably unusual (how many people rush to buy a car that's going to be outdated?)

1. Heard 3-series coupe undergoing mid-cycle refresh for MY 2011.
2. Saw the latest spypics.  Me no like.
3. Production of 2010 3-series will cease Feb. 2011.  For car not on lot, need to order by Dec. 18 approx. to get MY 2010.
4. Drove 328i auto.  Great car.  328i has been reliable.
5. Drove 335i auto.  Impressions can be summarized as follows: "OMFG!!!!!"
6. Scratched "test all competitors" on my to-do list.  Really, this decision is not based on objectivity, reason, etc.
7. Got APA price, bought car.

Color/ Options: Jet Black, Cream Beige Interior, Burl Walnut trim, Premium, Sport, Bluetooth, iPod/US Audio Integration, Steptronic.  Apart from the Step, the rest is now standard on the 335i coupe.

Jet Black on Cream Beige with Burl Walnut. Mmmmm... very classy.

I really like the beige interior, but we have a black Labrador Retreiver, so I don't think it would work out too well for us. Although, I suppose we could trade in our black Lab for a yellow one...

The black exterior is a great choice, too. If I hadn't already owned a black car for 13 years, it would be at the top of my list. As it is, I really like the Monaco Blue (very dark blue, and also looks great with the beige), but Space Grey and even the Bluewater Metallic are gorgeous, too. It's a tough decision - there's lots of great choices (probably even more so on the 335).

Oh, and welcome back!

Options considered/ not taken
« Reply #6 on: December 11, 2009, 01:46:42 am »
- Considered the M Sport Package.  Only cosmetic, but looks sharp.  In that case, would have gone with white exterior and full black interior (including headliner).  Unfortunately, the M steering wheel is too thick for my small hands, and it’s quite $$ for cosmetic upgrades IMO (but value is subjective).
- Considered iDrive:  2009+ iDrive much improved over previous versions.  However, dislike the hump caused by navigation on dash (I seem to be in the minority on that one though), already have a Garmin which I graphically like much better (again, many people think portable unit on such a car screams cheap but I’ve never cared), would like the option of upgrading the technology later, and afraid of adding any more technology to a Bimmer.
- Considered audio updgrade.  Option is to upgrade base HD Radio to BMW Individual Audio.  Haven’t heard HD Radio is crappy or anything, and am not a big audiophile or anything.

Thanks SiRCivic.

Do you like the Black interior with Grey Poplar trim?  I think that trim is really nice on black leather or leatherette (I honestly couldn't tell the difference by looking at it).  I liked it a lot, but I wanted some contrast.

I went in there thinking I was going to order a Monaco Blue, as I love blues, but it was too dark for me in real life.  In that case, I preferred a "pure" black.  But Monaco Blue makes the beige and burl look best IMO.

Next year, coupe (at least) will come will new blue color, deep sea blue.  Wonder if they will offer it on Sedan and Touring as well.  It looks amazing (saw a 135i with it and a black interior).

335i doesn't have additional color choices.  Except for BMW Individual Colors.  But that's a $3900 upgrade.  They have an amazing blue with that one (forgot its name), but not worth $3900 to me. :P

You're not alone. I think it ruins an otherwise elegant and clean design.

Me, too. The nav screen is just an ugly wart on what is otherwise a very clean and fluid dash design.

Grey poplar isn't an option on the Touring, but I loved it on the 128i when I was looking.

For my Touring (if that's what I end up choosing), I'm thinking along two separate lines: if I get the sportier RWD car from the States, I think I'd get Bluewater Metallic on black leather with the aluminum trim. I'm a little worried that the black seats will be too hot in the summer, but overall I think that combination has a crisp, sporty look that really appeals to me.

On the other hand, if I go with an xDrive Touring, somehow I feel a more luxurious colour scheme is in order. Probably Space Grey on Saddle leather with Burl Walnut. I like the Saddle because you get the brown seats to lighten up the cabin a bit, but still have black carpeting to hide the dog hair.

Tasman Green is also tempting, and should work well with the Saddle, but I'd want to see it first to make sure. And as much as I love the Monaco Blue, it's very similar to what we have on the Suburban. I dunno, but having two cars the same colour parked side by side in the driveway might look a little odd.  :-\

I like those color combos you mentioned (except the green, I dunno about the green either).

Wow, black + beige...great choice.
I always turn my head whenever passing a 3 series coupe (especially the black ones), even though it has been around for a few years....plus the engine should be thrilling!!

Congrats, Julie!  What a brutally agonizing wait that'll be for you!  Great choice with the colour combo too.  Very envious!

The basic sound system ("BMW Business") in the 335 should still be really good.  I'm very happy with the one in my 330i, but like you, I'm not a huge audiophile  (but it's still noticeably better than any other car I've had).

Welcome back!

As I said in the other thread, glad to have you back here.

Your choice seems to be well thought out. The Jet Black and Cream Beige will be an excellant looking coupe. The N54 TT engine is to die for. The rush of torque you get down low, starting at 1400rpm, is very useful around town. Skipping the Individual package was smart, it's pricey and only cosmetic. I like the MSport packages visually (had it on my 535xi) but the 3 coupe is just as nice to look at without it.

The new iDrive is so easy to use, compared to previous ones. It is actually intuitive now. If you have the RunFlatTires (think you do), I would recommend getting the BMW wheel/tire insurance at delivery. Takes away the worry over having to replace same if potholes or hazards claim an expensive tire. Covers your winter set up if done at BMW also.

I happen to like the dash/nav layout on the E90s but that's a subjective thing. Personallly, I would never go for the Tasman green, but the Barbera red would be tempting.

I trust you are on BMW forums, there are several.

The waiting is hard, but gives you a great reward... ;D ;D Congrats.

Hi Air!

I have thought about that.  But that would mean waiting at least 3 more months for delivery, and then another 8 weeks(?) for her to be delivered to Canada.

Honestly, I'm still thinking about it.

If the 330i were available in coupe form, that’s what I would have gotten.  Gorgeous engine, no twin turbo reliability problems.
