I like the Marauder actually!  And have always been a fan of the Monaro/GTO.

I don't trust the MS6, rust, engine mount issues etc.  Plus not enough space for light stands.

Trunk in Marauder is as big as they get.  It's GARGANTUAN!!!  (My dad has a Crown Vic..same car..but the Vanilla version)
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

If Darth Vader was a mafia enforcer, he'd drive a Marauder.  What else do you need to know?

Are you sure you are not thinking about the MS3? I don't remember there being any engine mount issues with the MS6 and if you could get light stands in a BMW 3 series they should easily fit in a MS6 with seats down. I use to sleep comfortably in my 6-wagon at trail heads.

Saying that, I think the Marauder would be a great pick and more unique.

There should be 1 or 2 BMW 540 wagons around, good luck trying to find it.

If you can't find a Marauder (and considering its small production numbers--11,000 in total between model year 2003 and 2004--that's a possibility), you should consider a Chrysler 300C.  340 hp 390 lb-ft Hemi V8, surprisingly good suspension and handling (it's no 3-Series, but it's far more poised and agile than the bendy land-yacht many would suspect), and massive interior and trunk.  Dashboard-strokers will gag at the interior plastics, but hey, if it was good enough for Barack Obama...

If you're looking for something different, a Marauder would be it. My first appartment had less space than the trunk on this thing. All the Cobra hop up parts bolt on too, for silly fun.

Apologies for posting rumour rather than fact, but I thought the handling was supposed to be particularly wallowy?  I have never driven one so don't know.  I'll be honest I was very surprised when I found out Obama had one.

Was it E-Class based, with E-Class suspension?

I've had 300C/Chargers/Magnums as rental cars. I thought they handled pretty well.

IIRC it was the same suspension used on the E-class, no idea what revisions were made to make it work on the larger 300/Charger.

One thing about these vehicles, they have long wheelbases, so are a bit clumsy in parking situations.

You might consider what many car enthusiasts eventually end up doing in this horrible climate; namely resign themselves to the fact that in south Ontario there are only 7 months of decent motoring (mid April to mid Nov).  Hint: you will need a garage for winter storage.

Try this one on as an EXAMPLE:

female owner (Toronto)  moving to the UK so she says
one previous owner
*engine size 2.5 L
*6 cylinders
*model 3-series
*odometer 160,758 km
*summer and winter tires both with rims
*plastic rear window replaced in 2007
*convertible top may be tempermental
*2008 SONY radio/CD player (product service plan until 2012)

Type of transmission not stated.  ::)   Has being driven in the winter by current owner which isn't ideal.  However, if rust free then a good Krowning would do it.

Ask is $8000., but I'm thinking $6500 if it's mint and a manual tranny.   Those motors pull hard. Tax would be $300 bucks or thereabouts.

Factor in $1000. for repairs/whatever and for $8000. you got yourself a nice spring/summer/fall ride.  Then for another $8000 buy yourself an older Ford Explorer and during the non winter months park it in the backyard and the kids can use it as a fort.  :)

BMWs have about 10 years of life operated in Ontario winter road salt and then it's a precipitous slide into BMW repair hell.  :)

I thought about a magnum, but a friend rented one on holiday in Whistler and said it was built like crap. Anyone any experience of these cars?

AS, I don't have room for two more cars, I only have a small drive.

I've driven the Magnum years back and found it a little ponderous. The 300 I had a while back for two weeks though I did like though. The leather seats were very nice especially. Currenlty I am driving the Charger and although the seats are cloth as it's a base model it is quite comfortable. I just got a blue one last night and gave the rental back the grey one. ;D

Do the rear seats fold down in a Charger or 300C, otherwise I can't get lighting stands/poles in no matter how cavernous the trunk?

I think my ideal car would be a cheap 5-series wagon with a manual trans and V8. But I don't think they exist.

Hmm.. Definitely worth a click.

Good find! 200K though...  :-\

And I don't know if I could seriously buy a car from Wayne's World!  :rofl2:

If that was $20K with a lot less mileage that would be v good indeed!

So what are the best used car websites to use, in Canada and in the US?

And are there any obvious pitfalls to avoid when importing from the US?
