Looking for a used SUV

Hi,

It's been a while since I visited last time.
My brother came over from abroad, and he wants to get a used SUV.
His budget is $5000 - 7000, and he needs at least a mid-size because he will need the cargo space and bigger room often.
He is not a car guy and he lived abroad for several years...he is willing to pay a bit more to buy a dealer-certified one.

He said he looked at 2001 - 2002 Ford Explorer with approx. 150,000 km.
Are there any alternatives he can also consider?
I did a quick search on autotrader.ca...there were some 2001-2002 Nissan Pathfinders and a lot of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep.
There were also a few Land Rovers at $7000....I thought Land Rover was a luxury brand? Is it because of the quick depreciation due to their bad reliability rankings?
Just any opinions/ideas/thoughts would be appreciated.

Probably best to avoid the Explorer and most definitely the Land Rover.  Pathfinders are likely a sound choice.  Would a Kia Sorento be large enough for his needs?  Also have a look at Kijiji.

The reason used Land Rovers are cheap is that they're total junk and will bankrupt you with repair costs.  The Pathfinder is the best choice on your list.

Thanks a lot for the opinions/recommendations.
He doesn't want Land Rover anyway, it was just my curiousity.
I also told him about Pathfinder, and he was more interested in it, rather than domestics.
We will shop around, and will let you know what he gets in the end.

The Pathfinder is a good one, or the X-terra...Older Toyota 4-Runner...Jeep Grand Cherokee with the inline 6 is a decent vehicle (the V8s are quite thirsty)...Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon (V8s arent' as thirsty as other brands, cheap to maintain)
