Not to rain on everyone's parade, but Toyota is not GM. Does anybody here really believe that Toyota will let this continue for 35 years like GM?
Toyota, in the person of Akio Toyoda, has already stepped up to the plate to admit that the auto giant lost focus for a few years in the race to be number one in sales. Toyota has already begun taking steps to rectify the situation, purging some executives in Japan and even publicly humiliating the previous President.
I believe that Toyota may even cede the number one position and return to what made the company wildly profitable, which was a fanatic devotion to incrementally improving quality throughout the line. It is Toyota's wildly profitable several years in this decade that has allowed the company to weather the financial upheavals better than any other manufacturer.
Don't be counting Toyota out just quite yet.
