What is more important, deep snow traction or ice traction?

well, there are times the city forgets my street so may have to blast thru 6" to get into driveway.....but don't want to sacrifice ice traction....

Then I would go with the Hankook W409 then.

For me, it's whichever is cheaper....General Altimax Arctic or Hankook I*pike W409.

I've used the I-PIkes and the X-Ice2.  X-Ice2 are many, many times better than the I-PIkes.  No contest.  However, for Buffalo, you should check out Blizzak WS60s.  Excellent in the deepest snow.

If cost is an issue I'd look at the Generals. They seem to score well above their price range in most reviews I've seen. (tirerack.com is a good source of comparison tests and consumer reviews)

The Generals on my Dakota have impressed me. Great in the snow and are velcro to the ice so far. A little squishy in the dry but they are worth their weight in gold in the nasty stuff. Hard to break traction in my AWD. If I start hooning it it is tough to get the ABS to kick in on snow.
