2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
« on: December 02, 2009, 10:21:57 pm »
I just came across the pictures of this new compact SUV from Mitsubishi. I had no idea that it's already in production form. Just few weeks ago I've seen some sketches of what was deemed to be the Outlander “Sport” (a smaller CUV, based on the Concept-Cx). Most likely it will be comparable to Tucson and Tiguan. This segment, sub-compact CUV, might be the next big thing.

Not bad looking IMO. It looks like it was designed with the Evo face in mind versus the 2010 Outlander.

So we should expect jacked up hatchback versions of the Yaris, Fit, Aveo, Fiesta, 2, Versa...?

I think it's more like C-Segment in car equivalent (e.g. Golf -> Tiguan). In Mitsu' case perhaps it's a shorter version of their C-Segment car platform.
In Euro they have few of these, Kuga being one of them.

This thing is too large to be sub-compact.

It's said to be smaller than the Outlander which is considered a compact SUV.

It would be sweet to come with a 2.0 Turbo, SST and AWD. Oh... and well designed and executed interior, with high quality materials.

...shame it's a Mitsubishi then.

 ???

The new Outlander I was in had really sub-par materials and possibly the worst seats I've ever sat in, and just about every EVO review has complained about the interior materials.

I'm not saying Mitsubishi is a bad company, but like Nissan five years ago, pleasant interiors do not seem to be the company's strongest point.

I see what you mean now.
Since we haven't seen the interior design for this car, I was only hopping that the design will be nice and Mitsu will up their game on the interior quality (and maybe fuel economy).

BTW, I like the seats in my Outlander. I drove/rode in other CUVs and I still like the Outlander seats much better. I guess it's a matter of personal preference.

The Outlander rental I had a month or two back also had terrible seats. I could not get comfortable in them.
I changed it for a Chrsyler 300 with leather and I was much happier. The seats in the Dodge Charger I am in currently are also pretty nice, even in the base trim.

She went in for a Fall/Winter check-up and the Doc ordered immediate surgery. She's resting comfortably yet the prognosis is terminal - she needs a new heart. They won't even let me bring her home till a donor is found. She does look good though, considering all the cosmetic surgery she had of late and I feel that she's a little "ticked" about me running around with this new girl. :-\

Do the words "warranty applies" fit into your conversations? That would reduce your stress levels appreciably.

How many km's does the old heart have?

I don't get these sized cars, when you actually get inside they are no bigger than a small sedan.  It's just a jacked up small car.

I found the Nissan Rogue to be tiny inside... a Versa probably has the same space.

I didn't either until I took a trip to Central America.  Here and in some of the various Carribean islands that I know about Mitsubishi is fairly big there and because of the conditions of the roads having a jacked up sedan is actually how things go (I saw Corollas and Lancers that were riding a few inches higher than they do here).  So having a small SUV with the hatch and designed for a higher ride height seems to be practical in those places.  Selling it in North America probably helps with overall development costs and captures those people who are trying to downsize their vehicle but still want that higher visibility - that matters to some and not others.  I prefer to be hugging the ground personally.
