dodge journey tires
« on: November 28, 2009, 05:01:55 pm »
wifey blew out tire on curb! Accidents happen.
Now I need to replace the tire and no-one has it!
Kumho is back-ordered till March!
No dealers in Ottawa area have one.
Chrysler won't help!
I have been in the business for over thirty years with tons of contacts. No-one can help(yet).
Anyone else ever run into this (any Make) and if so what was your solution other than buying steels and winters as I am broke right now ( did I I say I was in the automotive business)

Have you tried buying a used tire to match your existing ones? Might be looking for a needle in a haystack though.

A cheap alternative is to get a set of four used matching winter tires with rims from an autowrecker. Or a set of new entry level winter tires like the Arctic Claw TXI or Goodyear Nordic (I am not a fan of these....but they are among the cheapest winters when on sale).

I guess I am trying to avoid this. I have been spoiled over the years with quality snows contiviking, hakkas etc and i belive the piggy bank will be replenished. I am hoping to find one tire to solve the problem short term. The irony of it all is that I did not want this option on my vehicle but the dealer refused to switch them for a 16" set off another vehicle!

I don't want toget off topic but -
if gyear and michelin spent as much money on engineering as they did on advertising, they'd have the best tires in the world (IMHO)

I too am not a fan of Goodyear....had a set of Wrangler AT/S were poor to fair at best. Very pricey for what you get.

Can you minus size to 17 or 18 inch?

Those Kumho tires on the Journey are horrible. Working for a Chrysler dealer,we have never seen so many un-repairable tires come into shop as those Kumho's on Journeys. It got so bad,we were taking tires off of stock units because we could not get them and our customers were getting pissed off.

I am not pissed off - Yet
been in the business long enough that I don't want to hurt fellow employees of dealerships. I am looking for a solution like - what buttons to push at chrysler, kumho etc.

Just wondering what defects/damage these tires were having?
It is much harder to make a larger diameter tire properly, any slight imbalance or misplacement of parts has a  much more noticeable effect at a given speed due to the larger diameter causing higher centripedal forces.
Lower profile tires are also much more susceptible to damage against potholes and curbs, etc.

19's on a Journey?  That's ridiculous.

How about buying a set of 17's and then tell the dealership to send Journey owners your way when they need to replace a tire.  Should be pretty easy to recover your costs.

the  damage was done on a curb. apparently she was going slow but the curb juts out right where she hit it. As i said earlier i don't expect Chrysle/Kumho to pay for the tire, just have one. as much as it galls me I would eeven pay retail for it!
I guess the only true solution is to down-size and sell the remaining tires. There are already two people out there selling them for crazy prices so I should be able to get rid of them fairly quickly.
