Topic: Mustang 2011 with new engines.

Looks like Ford is paying attention to the crowd and the guys across the street.

According to Jalopnik the old 4.0L V6 will be replaced with a healthy 3.7L V6 featuring 315HPs, the GT will be available with the Coyote 5.0L V8 400HP.

Here's the summary of all the things to come:

3.7L V6 to be rated at 315 horsepower: Same as 2010 GT; 15 hp more than Camaro V6
No immediate plans for EcoBoost V6 Mustang due to small horsepower gap between EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 (365 vs 400)
2011 Mustang GT to be rated at 400 horsepower, will get increase in 2012
2011 Mustang GT to get 6-speed transmission and variable valve timing
2011 Mustang GT Track Pack to include Brembo brakes
2011 Mustang GT 5.0L V8, 6-speed, track pack, Brembo brakes ran even with 414-hp BMW M3, which is 200 lbs lighter, at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan
2011 Shelby GT500 to get Aluminum Block
Next special edition: 2012 Boss

Dang...impressive numbers, those.  With these new engines, and considering the nice interior on the 2010+ models and the far-better-than-you'd-think-with-a-live-axle handling, the 2011 Mustang is looking pretty badass.

Wonder what the Chevy guys will do to keep up. The Z28 will handle the top of the range, but the V6 needs some help in the handling area.

The only shame in all of this is that Ford didn't do this for 2010.  They've basically screwed everyone that bought a 2010 GT.  With the '10s having such a significant overhaul to everything but the engine, it's like cooking up a sensational turkey dinner, but not quite cooking the turkey long enough.  Having the engines that Wolverine described above would've rendered the Camaro a non-starter for all but the die-hard GM fans or the secretaries who preferred the bowtie's styling to the blue oval's.  

Nonetheless, as someone who really loves the '10 Stangs, I'm just all the more excited about the 2011's now.  It'd be great if they were an "early" 2011 and came out in the spring of '10.

My recollection is that BMW and especially Porsche do this all the time.  They usually never reveal a "new" model with a "new" engine.

I wonder if 315 hp is due to DI, which would prolly make it more efficient than the 4.0 V6. Lighter car (VS Camaro) with a few more horses and better interior = no brainer. I may actually consider it as my 1st new domestic.

Must have already had that procedure...my preference is to drive the cars rather than fondle plastic...and I prefer a stick shift.

I hear you...I'd kick myself as well.  If the point is to sell more cars though, this may be pretty smart.  They sell the first batch to the folks that like the styling...and then they introduce new equipment to keep it fresh.

Might end up with higher quality as well given you're not introducing all new stuff at one point in time.

So now that even the base Mustang will have 300+ HP, I wonder how the insurance companies will look at this? I mean not that long ago (1996), the GT had something like 215 HP and I recall the insurance was through the roof.  I guess as long as everyone drives nice and easy, the claims will be low, and hence the insurance will be low

I just think they didn't have the engines ready and they really needed to face the Camaro with something new.

The Grabber Blue Mustang GT that I drove in the summer is STILL at the Ford dealer in Burlington. (I can tell from the option packages and completely faded factory sticker on the window).

Magically, all of the GT500s that were there have dissapeared virtually over night.  Recall that they wouldn't let me test drive one because the guy said "they are an exotic car".  They were up to 8 of them.

Maybe they thought they just weren't going to sell in November.
