Mazda3 2005 - heating/air DOESN'T WORK!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm currently driving a 2005 Mazda3 GT hatchback with some major ventilation issues.
The problem is that no air comes out of the vents, no matter the fan speed setting. This poses a major problem in the winter, since there's no heat to defrost the windshield and it makes for some cold drives to work in the morning! The air conditioning will not trigger any air flow either. Trying every setting imaginable (heating/AC off, changing fan speed settings, reving the car, ...) will not cause any air to flow from the vents.

I hear that it's common for Mazdas to have weak heating/AC, but to have no air flow at all?!?
Has anyone come across a solution?

Can you hear the fan running on any of its speeds?

Have you checked your fuses?

Mazdas have always had marginal heatring systems but that is nuts. Sounds like an old VW bug. Bring the scraper and a toque.

If the fan works only on its highest speed but not in the lower speeds, it's the resistor for the fan that is U/S and needs to be replaced.  Happened on my Sonata last January on a -25C morning.

Unfortunately I can't hear the fan at all, leading me to believe that dr_spock's fuse suggestion is probably the right path. However, the fan 'turn on time' has been slowly increasing over the past 1 year. Started at a tolerable 10 minutes, then 1 hour, and now never.
I brought the car into my Mazda dealer to see what they suggest, that they said they didn't know exactly what the problem is, but it might be the thermostat. This seems a bit weird since the fan never comes on, regardless of temperature.
Heading for my fuse box, but any more suggestions welcome.

All your talk about waiting for fan to come on is confusing. Do you have a top of the line model with automatic climate control? That is an important piece of info needed if we are to help.
