The Nokian WRG2 SUV
It's not a true winter tire, but more of a true "all season" tire. It will get you to Canada safely and should work well enough during the winter months without needing to buy dedicated winter tires.

I agree,
the WRG2 SUV is an excellent all weather tire. Great in dry, wet, snow, ice, slush. I have them on my Rav4, excellent tire.
