pricing question on fixing wiper linkage

Hi,
my front wipers just stopped working on my 2002 Subaru Forester.
The mechanic has said I am best to buy the part new from the dealer ($150) and then suggests about an hour and a half ($100) to install. Does this sound reasonable?

Subaru parts can be expensive.  This doesn't sound out of line to me.

What part exactly?  If its the actual wiper motor that is pretty reasonable.  You can get one at a wrecker for $75. but you gotta add shipping and it may not work that long.

How many kms on the car?  That is very unusual for a 2002.  Where ya from?

I don't think it is the motor Artic Steve but is is the clips that hold the wiper on the arm I think.

I have been living in Simcoe County in Ontario however I have now moved to Halton Region, Ontario. I have been driving between these two areas a lot so I have put 270,000 k's on this vehical. Does that make more sense.

I have given the OK to the mechanic to do the work.

BTW - I recently submitted a question in this forum to help me find a good mechanic in Hamilton area and I have gone with CRS Automotive on King St as recommended. The first visit for my oil change felt pretty good. The guys there seem honest and they are open until midnight!!!!

I know it is too late as you have already authorized the repair but fixing linkage is a repair that you can possibly do yourself.

I had a lot of play in my wipers (Honda Accord) and I suspected I had to replace the whole linkage assembly. That would have cost around the $200 mark. I am not a DIY guy but I thought I would take a crack at getting cover and base of windshield off and take a look. Turns out it was just a bad bushing on the end of one arm. Everything else was fine.  Bought a new arm for $28 and replaced it pretty easily.

It would be nothing for most people that have a little skill. It was slightly challenging for me as I have none.
