I disagree with James's view that you can't fit adults in the back, IIRC I fit in there just fine.  OK I wouldn't want to be there for hours but it wasn't uncomfortable.

My co-worker literally had to straddle the front seat and crunch forward!

James, How many lengths of 2x4's can you load into it?
Railton

You serious?  haha Not many, or at least not long ones.
Serious? Yup. 8' lengths would do with the hatch open a bit but tied down, back seat folded down and front seat move forward as far as it can go or reclined flat. Whatever way will hold the lumber best.
All past hatches I've owned have all carried lumber loads at one time or another that should have been carried by a truck or at least a van. Saab hatches of old were great for carrying lumber, even refrigerators in a pinch.
The RX-8 fails this test miserably, yet, it's not a hatch is it...the rear sats don'r even fold down. I miss this practicality.
In the old days an old station wagon test was the 4x8 sheet of plywood.

This is not a hatch either, it's a trunk hence the failure I mentioned.

I am disappointed about the lack of padded surfaces, though. The door panel elbow rest, as well as the centre console storage armrest, are not padded, so that nearly the entire interior is made of firm, hard plastics.
.....
With a small trunk opening and a fold-down rear seat (not 60/40), you can carry longer items if you can get them in at the right angle......

Well I guess we don't need to read anything about how it performs right?...I mean...it's all hard plastic.

Oh my...and a small trunk opening...well...this car is doomed.

My sentiments about the driving experience pretty much echo JustBob's.  Feels great, sounds great and goes well... just not as fast as one would expect for a 300+ hp small car.

Hyundai gets a Thumbs up from me on this one -- and as also pointed our earlier, without even a rear 'occasional' seat, the 370Z is off my radar.

Not sure where you guys are getting your reference from that it doesn't feel like 300hp, I find it feels just fine like the 300hp, perhaps the ride is so good you can't tell how fast you are going?  I'm about to write my day 3, but summary it is a quick car and torquey, almost end up going 130 by accident Wink

Just going by memory from my drive in one earlier this year.  In terms of the 'seat of the pants' feel in the thrust, it felt very similar to my BMW -- which has considerably less than 300 hp.  By comparison, my brother's WRX265 really forces you into the seatback, and again, it has less than 300 hp (though a similar weight, I presume).  I just expected more from the Genesis -- not that it's slow by any stretch -- but just didn't thrust me into the seat the way I had anticipated.

It is a very smooth car and is really fantastic to drive.

Oh, and cheeky TopGun, even if there are a few hard plastics in the Genesis, the overall layout and design of the interior is really quite good.  Not at all like, oh, say a Camaro whose sheer disregard for any sense of good taste or aesthetics is an offence to the eyes and touch.   Grin

I hope that's 130mph...by accident. A hybrid Prius will do 130kph...given enough room.

Cheeky?  Me?  Why thank-you!  I never even thought of the Camaro when I posted... Wink

It's not nice when every second post is from some dufus ranting about the quality of the plastic and ignoring the driving dynamics is it?

I think the problem is that some of the 300bhp cars out there have turbo's which automatically make them feel faster.  Does anyone have the torque curves for this car, the WRX 265 and the BMW 135i?

I think I am about 5'9" (don't really know) but I fit in the back easily.

P.S. Oh and I can fit a 10ft pole in the Outlander... just!

Well no...but regardless, a nice interior makes a good car even better, and therefore interior quality can't be ignored.  Part of the greatness of say...an RX-8, is that it's a very complete package.  For some, it would be less enjoyable if it had a POS interior (or uncomfortable seats  Wink ), don't you agree?

Well, sure...if you can have it all - take it!

I can tell you honestly though, I bought the RX8 and didn't fondle the interior plastic one bit.  The interior plastics are not that great...but for what I bought it for, I didn't care that much.

It's just my observation that there is a disproportionate amount of discussion about the interiors and the gadgets as opposed to the cars dynamics themselves.

Maybe it's because most of the cars are just so darn good these days.

That's ALOT of it...very astute observation.  When it comes down to buying a car, since so many are sooo good (and pretty equal in terms of performance), inevitably something will be the "deal breaker".  And a nice interior usually wins over a not-so-nice one.
