Day 1:

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8GT
What's has 306hp and 266lb-ft of torque and drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission?  Hint, it is not American or Japanese; it is Korean.  That's right -- this week I am driving the all-new for 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe -- a.k.a. the Mustang killer?  I don't know about that; I really like the Mustang but this is a very compelling package and I am sure a week of fun driving is ahead.   More...

Excellent - looking forward to your thoughts on this one.  I took a V6 / manual version for an extended test drive and came away very impressed.

I really like this car, but I'm suspicious that were it my money, I might try to find the few thou extra for the 370Z, which I think is awesome now.  However, it's a great effort and nice to see some RWD cars being developed...

Nice for a seasonal car. Must be fun or a handful in winter conditions though.

Sigh...I have to agree!  For $39K you can either a 370Z or an STi.  Personally, I think the 2.0T is a bargain.  I'd toss on a smallish GT35R and be making 350+HP.  If it were my money.... Grin

Did anyone agree that it looks like a Lexus IS 350?  Hmmm ... I wonder how this coupe compares to the IS350 in handling and performance.

Very nice, but I'd have a very tough time parting with that extra $12K for the GT. Basically 2 extra cylinders along with some other extras.  Huh

Love this car too. I think Hyundai is going in the right direction. I still maintain that Hyundai will phase out the Elentra and Accent and become Luxury division and KIA will be the volume seller.  Smiley

Agreed. In the $35-40K range there are several great alternatives to the 3.8GT. However, in $25-30K range the 2.0T starts to look interesting. Smiley

I Agree  Even for it's price I find it hard to beat, the interior is great and the driving position is top notch.  It's just feels a little slower than it should with 300bhp.

Wing, how would you compare the V6 to the 2.0T after driving it around for a few days?

The Accent and the Elantra make up 70% (IIRC) of Hyundai's sales in Canada.  They have other successful models but they need to create "fancier" cash cows before they leave it to KIA.  I would say in 20 years if all the big players stick around.

How is it possible that after electricity has traveled through hundreds of miles of power line then hundreds of feet (or yards) of romex in our home, that changing the last three feet of wire with something exotic, expensive (cool looking, and packaged in a pricey box) is going to make a difference?

I've already seen tonnes of these on the road, which is good news for Hundai at least.  I'm not 100% sold on the styling, but the 2.0 version is definitely interesting, at least until the 2011 Mustang drops, with 315hp from the V6.

First I agree, it is a nice little car, I drove it for about an hour. I actually thought the interior and feel in the car was more compelling for me than in the 370Z. Something about being in the Z just didn't jive for me despite it's superior performance.

As for Hyundai going luxury only? I don't know fellas, it would be hard to convert that brand name at this point and more importantly why would they do it. They would be better off creating another to be honest.  It's about marketshare in the end. Hyundai is succeeding right now because of the value market, why would they abandon this long fought for marketshare, especially when KIA isn't even close to what Hyundai is doing now with their value sales (Elentra/Accent/Santafe).

I think they should come out with a even better Genesis for one more cycle. Then drop it from the Hyundai lineup and roll it out with even more bells and whistles as a flagship of their new `Gensesis' lineup.
