Has Ford's medium to long term quality improved? That's the main thing keeping me away from Ford. Oh and they have nothing I want. Smiley

Fusion has reanked very high in quality with the fiorst version. So the answer (at least to medium term) would be a resounding yes.

Cars high on my list right now would be Ford and Hyundai.  Even if I think the world of my Altima;)

So who were the contenders?

I think the Fusion is a very solid vehicle, but COTY?  What were the other choices?

Youtube blocked at my present location, as are most video files.

Odd that the article on "contenders and finalists" didn't just give a list of the "contenders and finalists".  Huh

The Fusion has been on sale since 2005 (model year 2006).  Since then, including during the first model year, the Fusion consistently has been one of the very most reliable midsize sedans on the market according to Consumer Reports.  If I recall correctly, it has regularly come in second place in Consumer Reports' "family cars" category for reliability, coming in slightly behind the Prius but slightly ahead of the Accord and Camry.

I wouldn't have any doubts about the Fusion's reliability.

It's great to see Ford adopting Kaizen and continuing to improve the product. That's one of the things that really pissed me off about Ford in the past, the 'only improve as much as we have to' mindset they had. It seems Mulally really has shook up the company thinking that way.

Congrats to Ford, love this car.

If you look at thee way their product line is shaping up, they will be very competitive in every segment by 2011.  I just hope they don't find a way to screw up what appears to be a very bright future.

I wonder how big Ford's ad contract with Motor Trend was?

Ford bias?  For Motor Trend COTY?  Seriously?
.....
I only see one bias, and that's for good cars.

Mitlov, Mitlov, Mitlov...have you not realized that all these tests are fixed except when Hondas and Toyotas win?

Yup...that's a list of good cars...and some good appliances too!

From the vid I too felt, going by the comments, that Prius should have won.

All the money in the world couldn't make a Honda the COTY.  Have you seen the they bring in this market now?

Finalists were Lacrosse, Camaro, Panamera, Prius.

They put the prius as a finalist even if sometimes accelerates without any reasons because it is so slow you have all the time in the world to run out of gas before hitting something.

Well they did in 2006...with the Civic.  The very same Civic that's on sale now and a sales leader in Canada and the USA.

Which part of "you're completely wrong" didn't you understand?  The COTY Civic IS a vehicle "they bring in this market now".  Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant.

Watched the vid - there's a half-hour of my life I'll never get back.  If I understand the wisdom of MT, Porsche Panamera = not much fun, Fusion 4-banger = lots of fun.  Now, I am disadvantaged in having driven neither vehicle, but c'mon.  Roll Eyes
