Maybe $14K includes the $6K down payment ?!

Here's the sums now I'm home. I'm a little bit out.

Base DX

$7044.52. Due on Delivery
-500 for trade in on a car

$6544.52

36 payments of $162.88 X 1.13 = $183.06 x 36 = $6590.16 + $6544.52 = $13,134.68

optional end value $9,453.60 x 1.13 = $10,682.56

Remember that a civic to elantra comparison is not apples to apples... there is a reason why the civic costs more, and you enjoyed the benefit...

True. But I would have no money to pay out right now.

Life is a full of surprise and hindsight if wonderful thing. pity I it comes after the event.   :)

Just so you know, this is not a "Life is a full of surprise and hindsight" situation. Its called not doing your math ahead of time. Plain in simple. It has a predictable outcome every time.

Life isn't always so predictable.

The way I see it, three years ago Ontariodriver could afford to buy an Elantra or lease a Civic. He decided to splurge a bit and lease the Civic.

I assume that he was hoping the new business would take off, and he would be in a better financial position three years down the road. Foolish? Maybe, but hardly predictable.

Who knows, but if the economy hadn't tanked last year, maybe Ontariodriver would be posting today about the new Acura he is leasing.  ;)

My comment was more towards that this isn't a surprise at all since all the numbers were known before each car could have been purchased/leased. He might as well said, I bought a house for 300K and it still isn't paid off but if I bought a house for only 150K I could have paid it off.

I've leased a couple of cars and at the end of it there was no surprises. I knew what I was getting into and knew that at the end I would have nothing (unless I bought out the car). Actually on my last car it turned out to be a better decision as the used car market sucked and I would have lost money selling it compared to leasing.
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

Update on my big dumb move. I brought the car out right $10.000 and sold last week. Once I put in the paper for $14,500 and sold it for $13,500 with included a 1994 Corrolla manual with air. Which I collect in a little while. I almost shed a tear seeing my pride and joy leave me this morning.  :)

LOL. yes when came down to it. Honda wanted 800 bucks on top. So I borrow the money and put an ad in the paper and prayed. Almost the same day I got a call and sold it. They didn't have all the money. So I took their car as trade. So now I have a 1994 Beige Corolla to drive around in. Works perfect too. High millage tho.
