hello , I am looking at buying the 4 cylinder version with automatic

any feedback would be good about gas mileage , feel on the road etc.. 

I am currently driving a Mazda 3  and a tank is about $40  for approx 450 km

$40? ~40 litres? With ~50L I'll go 470ish kms for my driving pattern with a 4cyl 5speed Tribute which is better than the Sentra I had before it. The '09s are supposed to get better mileage than the '05-'08s. A friend test drove an '09 4cyl so I can't speak to the driving dynamics but there were 3 adults in it and he said it performed well. He did end up with the V6, though, since he doesn't drive that much and was used to a supercharged Pontiac.

If you are looking for better fuel economy than your Mazda3 I don't think that will happen. For feel on the road that would be something that you would have to test as 'feel' is different for everybody.
