Or maybe somebody tipped it over, and the bulb just fell out?

Lets see - do you suppose it caught up to a bug or that it was overtaken by a bug.  Hmmn - either way the cure is likely expensive.

I think this German bug might be contagious.  An Acura RDX cut in front of me today and braked.  His brake light was not working.   Smiley

Yeah, like VDK says, that's the rear fog light.

Mercedes rear fogs are just one side. I've seen B- and C-classes with the rear fog on for whatever reason. I have a single fog too, but it's in the centre. Grin

Fack! What a bunch of maroons. I hope that's standard equipment and not $500 option!?
The whole rear fog light thing is wacky, only necessary on the Autbahn when you're tailgating at 155mph!
Oldsmobile offered that useless option on one of their end of life vehicles (Aurora maybe?). I remember following some git on the Airport Parkway one evening years back with "both" (unlike the clever Germans with one  Huh) on full tilt on a non-foggy evening wishing to ram the rear end of him just to dim them. Shocked

Euro rear fogs are supposed to be one side only.  My 2000 A4 had one  IIRC you could only have it on when the low beam lights were on.
E46 coupes had them IIRC but my sedan did not.
