The 5 worst words in aviation - While I Was At It....The plan was to replace the airspeed indicator...and then all of a sudden, the instrument panel was removed... Here's the before and after...

Looking good!
Did you do the work yourself, or is that a silly question? (I can't remember how much TC lets an owner do on a privately registered aircraft.) |

They don't. That's why 'sane' people by ultralights and EA's. Very nice TG. New carpets too! Did the clock get replaced by a EGT? I give it 2-3 years till it needs to be replaced. The old "big red" throttle was da'bomb. Where will the new radio$ go? Railton |

Thanks SiR...Railton has it right...if you do any "official" work yourself, then the aircraft loses its certification. .....That's why 'sane' people by ultralights and EA's.
Those guys flying ultralights and EAs are all test pilots...and many of them crash. I don't fly that much...so I liked the idea of owning something that's had 50 years of bug removal done to it. It's easy to fly...and pretty much foolproof...which is a good thing for me! It's just a carb heat guage...not an EGT guage. Radios? We don't need no stinkin' radios. |

I'm not so sure 'any' aircraft owner is 'sane'...unless they have a business to write off the expense. Railton |

Hmmm... looks like TC has come up with a Special Certificate of Airworthiness - Owner-Maintenance Category. If you want to switch over to the Special C of A, it looks like you can do just about anything you want on your aircraft, up to and including a full overhaul or rebuild. If you're feeling handy, COPA has a guide here. And TC has added the Cessna 150 to the list of eligible aircraft here. |

Ya...I took a look at a couple of those airplanes...pretty scary. There are some mechanics...not mine of course, that will work with you. In other words, they'll give you the joe-jobs that can take a lot of time...things like removing panels, cleaning parts, and taking stuff apart. That helps keep the costs down, and you get to know your aircraft too. |

Cue more wheelbarrows of money. Railton |

Awesome work, my friend! I have a great appreciation for the work you do on your plane. It's much like me and my cars/bikes. It's never good enough, and you can always find SOMETHING that needs replacing/fixing/fine tuning/modding.
Awesome work! I've always wanted an aircraft or powerboat, but I know with how much I like to mod stuff, I'd bankrupt myself with either!
Again...great stuff! I sure dig labors of love like these....! |

It's never good enough....
True enough...depending on how much night stuff I do, I'd like to put an LED beacon on it...$800...for one light!
I'd bankrupt myself with either!
I've come close!

You understand completely rrocket-man...this is a labour of love as doing this work to a little two seat Cessna 150 makes no business sense.
I'm curious to what Bob thinks of the "artsie" picture of the plane in the background...and the RX-8 front-end in the foreground.

It's always seems that some of the things we enjoy most out of life don't make sense.... |

The 5 worst words in aviation - While I Was At It.... Then there is this saying... I know there is money in aviation...I put it there. After 3 years of instructing and being poor, I got out of aviation with only a lot of experience to show for my time. In the end, that is priceless and something your weekend warrior will never attain. |

What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!
A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!
A true driver's car does not have cup holders.
