1986 Chrysler LeBaron - Town & Country was a little too posh for me. I paid the grand sum of $160 for it. Runs decent and has a safety inspection - gold. Its going to be my second car as its hard to get by with just our van with two boys in hockey. Strictly an inner city car. Its got some rust but nothing structural. The other side is less beat up - slightly. Never owned a K-car or one with a vinyl roof - exciting times!

Here some pictures. To keep your jealousy in check - haha

Interior after a wipe down on the surfaces. I was impressed with how clean the seller had it. Still needs a vacuum.

Hide away trunk look. Neat. Never owned one before.

The 2.2L four cylinder in the Chrysler LeBaron. Its a SOHC design and has an aluminum head and iron block design Interestingly both the intake and exhaust manifolds are on the rear of the engine. Its got a bore of 87.5 mm (3.44 in) and 92 mm (3.62 in) stroke giving 96 horsepower.

Rusty steel wheel and missing the hub cap. - man is it ugly!

My first digital dash. The previous owner told me when it gets to two bars on the gas gauge find a gas station.

I like the front wheel drive plaque - is that a boast or warning?

I think they are boasting that it is FWD because that was a new big thing around then...

My Mom had this exact car!!!  Same colour, I learned to drive on this thing.  Man I don't remember the interior being that HORRIBLE!

Great stuff, love it. Slightly older and more beaten on than my 1992 Honda Accord Coupe, but I did pay a bit more than $160 for mine. Thanks for the pix and the comments.... Grin Grin

Truly a piece of automotive history.

Although front seat adult passengers should be supplied one of these.

My dad had an old Caravelle which was basically the same car, minus the landau roof.   Thanks for posting the pics, it was like looking at dad's old car, and brought back some great old memories.

When I used to have the car on weekends I'd take off the corrugated "L" shaped pipe leading up to the airbox.  It made it sound better at WOT...can't say it made it much faster though... Tongue

Family used to have an 1985 Plymouth Reliant. Second car we had after another dubious machine, a Hyundai Pony (not sure of the year).

It ran pretty well. The Pony on the other hand was mechanically good (IIRC, I was quite young) but the heater never, ever worked. And this was in Sudbury.

BTW: 60k on it?

Seriously, would you honestly put kids in that?  It looks like a death trap.

Sorry to be negative, I just can't see it surviving a crash of any sorts... I'd be reluctant to put any family members in it.   Undecided Embarrassed

Bob, you're 25 years too late.  All the domestic cars and pickups back then were death traps.  It's what defined being a Canadian; the good o'le days.

Yep to that, that '86 looks quite civilized and safe compared to some of the stuff I drove as a younger person.

Ha! A friend had one just about the same. As we were going across the Lions Gate bridge billowing smoke at an alarming rate the car notified us that "your engine is seriously overheating"  We got to the Nissan dealership where he was trading it in and handed the salesbiff the keys to the car that was still running. And running. And chugging. And billowing smoke. ROFL  That guy had some explain'n to do to his boss that day!

Definitely part of our culture.

And of course, BOOYAH!

On the front wheel drive thing, it was a big deal back then. I remember our neighbor getting a K car and commuting 40 miles every day on N. Alberta gravel roads, going through everything winter could throw at it. We were amazed.

The era of cars getting stuck all the time was over.

Haha - lots of great K-car stories! Oh and yes the kids will go in - just had a safety inspection and is in solid enough shape - probably just use around town though.

Not 60K - 360K! Odo drops the first digit.

It's in GREAT shape!!!!!   Thumbs up Thumbs up   I guess they didn't think it would make it past 99,999 kms?   Wink

Does it still have 'Your Door is Ajar' voice notification?

I always thought it would be great to get a whack of 1980's vintage (not collector cars necessarily) cars all out to a drive in for an '1980's theme night' and play a triple bill of Ferris Beullers Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Hey that is the cost of a spare part and fixing or less than a B services on a Civic. I love that old NA car BTW even then it was dated.  Wink

State of the art digital dash. They must have been ahead of the curve. I still find styling odd for that period. Square dials and Square looking dashes Ummm.
