I've got a 1988 Toyota pickup with a very noticible miss at 2000-3000 rpm. It rarely misses outside this range and won't miss if I'm constantly accelerating through 2000-3000 rpm, but if i hold anywhere between 2000-3000 it misses bad. I've read that a sloppy timing chain affects the ignition timing and can cause a bad miss(?). Anyone have any suggestions?

We used to get missing occasionally in our old stuff on the farm. It was usually bad plug wires/wire connections, a crack or carbon tracking in the distributor cap, or bad plugs.

First, this vehicle is 21, almost 22 years old, pretty good that it lasted this long! If you are really intent on keeping it, do a complete tune up, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, air filter. As for the timing chain on this model, if it is stretched, you will hear it slapping against the housing.

After said tune up, ask yourself it it is really worth keeping. If it has more than 300,000 km on it, don't bother, the engine is simply worn out.

Have to disagree on that. Being as my daily driver has 421,000 Smiley

On the parts, I've had good luck with Autopartsway.ca. Much cheaper than anyone else, especially if you need a bunch of parts so shipping is free. I think they vacuum up good quality old stock somehow.

Apples and oranges. The 22-RE is not as durable as the B2000 motor.
