Lotus compress the low end of the rev range so you can use more of the space for revs above 3K, a good idea IMHO.



Maybe you could do that with the high end of the speedometer?

Don't cars come limited at 207? But I guess they have to give you something that will work on the track if you remove the limiter....everything is overspecced these days. And I like it. ;D

TSX goes up to 240. Zero at the bottom, 80 at 9 o'clock, 160 at 12, 240 at 3. I've seen a it go to 200+. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fake ;)

EDIT: Hmm I wonder if the Civic tops out at 199.

I've owned or ridden a bike that had a tach that began at 3-4,000rpms.  I forget which one.  I THINK it was an early GSXR or an RG500.

I agree 140 KPH would be quite silly since it would result in cruising speed (100-120 being far past 12 oclock

However I also agree that the 300 KPH speedo in my GTI is stupid. The useable range is all compressed into a space upe to about 10 oclock and it results in the numbers being way small and much harder to read than needed. Its kinda silly to have a speedo that goes well beyond the top speed of the car..especially when its electronically limited

Back on thanksgiving weekend, we were at hockey tryouts, and one girl didn't have her hockey pants(shorts)...her father forgot to pack them...since it was tryouts, she really needed to be on the ice, so he called home (30 min away), and arranged for his gf to meet him part way there....when he got back with the pants, he commented that his Mazda 3 was limited to 190km/h....

We could.... easy enough to do just requires  a few cents to alter the swing of the needle on the numbers or to have the numbers displayed electronically for any units you want , even Furlongs per fortnight.

Here's the Sebring's instrument panel.  AFAIK, the car is electronically limited to 180 km/h.  I have not yet confirmed that.  ;D

Notice that 120 is almost right on 12 oclock. There is good spacing and its easy to read where 100 110 120 etc are. This is a good case for a speedo with over 140 kph. Speedos should reasonably read 200-240 so that 100-120 will be at 12 oclock.

I can confirm than an o2 Sebring/Stratus is limited to 180. That was nearly 8 years ago so the statute of limitation should long have run out right? Pretty abrupt fuel cutoff if I remeber correctly.

Bob, that's a good idea about the staggered spacing of the digits on the tach or speedo.  IIRC, Saabs had/have speedos that do that.  Below 100 or 120 there are more digits, then after 120 or so, the jump between numbers is greater. 

Ovr, thanks for clarifying.  I didn't think I recalled seeing anything of that digital readout in my manual.  I know that when I set my cruise control it flashes the speed momentarily in that panel (though my speedo is almost exactly 5km/h optimistic according to my gps) but didn't think you could get it to stay on as a function all the time.

80 mph at 12 o'clock on the GB model. 120 kph on the Canadian model. That's about right--on the highway I hang out between 100 and 120 kph.

Not that it matters. I doubt many MINI owners use the centre speedometer. The digital one in the tachometer is much more convenient.

That one is great
My truck goes to 200, so 100 is at 12
But I would happy even it went to 160, really once you over a 100 in Ontario does it make any difference?
I rather know the speed at the lower end like school zones
