Day 1:

No supercars for me this week; only one car, the 2009 Nissan cube. Perhaps you can't even call it a car -- more like box on wheels. I drove the cube when it was first launched in Canada and was impressed by it then, but living with a car for a week is quite a bit different than driving it for a few hours on a press trip, so this week should help me decide if I still like the quirky cube (cube is not capitalized, as per Nissan). More...

I don't mind the exterior so much, but that interior is just horrible. It really makes Fisher Price proud! |

Ah yes, the cube. The car with a comb-over. Ever notice how the asymmetrical rear window/ pillars make it appear like it's got a comb-over?
I've got to imagine that driving it would make me feel as cool as if I were wearing a bow-tie. I'm sure there are some people who can pull it off, but I would (as most other people do) look like the biggest wienie driving around in that silly thing.

It does look odd, but I'm hoping the benefit of this design is to improve visibility! The main problem I had with the Soul when I had one for a couple of days was the thickness of its rear pillars... I felt as though I was driving a cargo van and changing lanes was much more difficult than I'm used to. I'd be interested to hear james comment on this aspect of the cube...

My wife likes the looks of the cube!! I take that as a bad sign. To me, the biggest negative might be the low power, combined with the CVT. I'll be interested in James' comments. |

My wife loves the Cube, but our interest waned when we found out that the upper SL model was not available with a manual transmission. Why do car manufacturers assume that manual transmission drivers are too cheap to pay for creature comforts? I just want the automatic climate control, my Mazda 5 GT 5MT has it and it allows me to pay less attention on fumbling with manual climate controls and more attention on driving. |

Actually I don't mind the retro look dash...it seems appropriate for the overall concept...but surely this is an around town to urban kind of vehicle. Why the need for a tachometer on this even with the six speed manual. Are we going racing here? A big speedo is all that is necessary IMO; especially with the automatic. I don't know...a Scion maybe or a Soul or back to the Fit. |

Interior is high quality materials as are all Nissans now, as far as being fisher price, some will look at the whole concept being such. It's a hate it or love it vehicle IMO. Can't help but to look twice when I see one, makes me smile every time. |

People wake up!!! This is not a real car! Remember the Pacer?? Why would anybody buy such a ridiculous thing? Who else but the japanese would ever bring to market such a joke. Would they dare sell this in Germany? |

Hughugley better be careful ... his term for the Japanese people is consider a racially derogatory term - my step son has Japanese heritage so I know he feels this is the same as the 'N' word.
Wing, slap his hand ...
On the cube though, quirky designs get old real fast. Gone in two years ... |

We have been here before gentlemen. The last remaining use of the word japanese is when talking about Morgan three-wheeled motor cars that had 2 cylinder japanese engines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JA_Prestwich_Industries |

New to america but certainly not the rest of the world, I would venture to say that if it does not sell here, not biggy, it sells elsewhere. Europe has all kinds of funny little cars like that. Yes I remember the Pacer, the Gremlin, the Aztec and none of them japanese jokes |
