Am I doing things alright?

Hey this is a great forum you've got here! I've lurked around before and decided to join.

Now my question is, I've got a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder XE-V6, it just rolled over 290,000kms and runs great. I've been told that I should switch to a high mileage oil. Currently I use the motomaster formula1 full synthetic and a motomaster filter. You won't believe it but the oil comes out almost the same colour as it went in!! The truck looks and runs awesome, and I change it every 5000kms on the dot, the oil also remains full the on the dipstick between changes!! I bought this truck almost 3 years ago 2 with just over 200k on it. Never let me down and I've driven it all over the place!

Should I change to a high mileage oil, or should I keep on doing what I am doing? I change the oil and fix everything myself (not like much as needed to be done, other than brakes and the timing belt/waterpump job). I always replace things with oem parts, except the oil.

This is the 4th pathfinder we've had in our family, its my first vehicle and I use it to commute to college daily. My dad had a 93 in the 90's and now he is rockin' a 2000 pf. I just picked up another 95 with 182k on it with some frame rot that I am going to fix up and use as a summer truck!

If it doesn't burn any oil why would you change your strategy. That "high mileage oil" is for engines that burn a bit or leak a bit.

the person/people who owned the truck before you obviously ALSO did regular oil and filter changes and so the piston rings & valve seals as well as the other seals in the engine are in good condition.

Thanks for the reply. I just changed my oil today and it's nice and clean. I'm also curious, is the Motomaster stuff good enough? I used to use the Mobil1 synthetic but couldn't afford to pay 52 dollars for a jug of oil plus 8 for a filter, being a poor college student and all. The Motomaster filter is 6 bucks and the MM Formula1 oil is 29.99 for a jug of 5w30(in the summer I run 5w50).

According to the owner history it started life in Sudbury and the guy I bought it from goes to the same college I do but he is from Sudbury as well. It was at one of those old houses that were converted into student apartments so I had my reservations as to how well it was taken care of. But the thing has had like 5 owners lol. It was also rust proofed every year so the undercarriage is mint.

^^Motomaster stuff is just fine.  Had a buddy who worked in the dyno room at Ford's engine plant.  They tested a bunch of oils, and the Motomaster was as good as any of the other usual off the shelf synthetics.
