GMC Terrain?
« on: October 22, 2009, 09:49:55 pm »
Spotted one of these on the QEW tonight going home. Can't say I found it attractive. Where did this come from or replace in their line up?

Assembled in Ingersoll, ON, so I hope it sells well.

Largely takes the spot that the Torrent used to fill.

For those who, like me, have no idea what this SUV is or even looks like, here is a link to the Buyer's Guide:

while excessive rebadging took place in the past, there are definitely people who prefer the gmc to the equinox appearance...i initially didn't like the gmc version, but it has grown on me...either way its a very good product and the theta 2 architecture is very solid....should compete very well if given open and honest reviews and compared with an open mind to the compettiion ( which seems to be a struggle lately)

If it's made in Ingersoll, then is it not a partner thing with Suzuki?

I still, for the life of me, cannot figure out why GMC made the cut and wasn't sent into oblivion like Olds and Pontiac.  Such a redundancy in the lineup.  Even Buick could've gone, but I understand the value of the brand to the Chinese market, so no big deal.  But GMC doesn't have a single vehicle that isn't a copy of at least one other model in the line up, right?

Agree GD. It appears that GM is doing Caddy/Chevy dealerships and then Caddy/Buick/GMC. In Scarborough we have one of each - four other dealers, make that five have vanished.

What I think would make sense would be to leave each dealer with one truck line and that should be GMC so we would have Caddy/Chevy/GMC and then Caddy/Buick/GMC.

I saw that on a TV commercial and vocalized that I thought that it was ugly. My wife piped up beside me and offered that she found it quite attractive. So maybe it will be popular with it's soccer Mom/cute 'ute demographic after all.

GM's entire MO has been volume, volume, volume.  They are still chasing that operational death spiral with this GMC/Buick business.

What they needed to do during this reorganization is downsize to the point where they put everything they have under ONE roof.  Forget about having a Chevy dealer or a Buick dealer or a Caddy dealer or a incoherent combo of those.

They need to rename their dealerships "GM Super Stores" and have everything they make under one roof like Toyota.  Therefore once the customer enters the store there is no reason for them to leave empty handed.

But then customers would see the GMC Sierra and the Chevy Silverado ;). This way they don't.

Good idea but.....we are talking GM and I don't think they are there or will ever get there unless forced.

Don't they already have these super store kind of dealerships.  I've seen several GM brands at one dealership several times (I haven't paid attention to which brands admittedly).  I know they do that more here in Canada than in the US.

Despite the weird look of these things, my latest Autoblog podcast stated they are selling very well.

.....

I don't mind this idea...I'm not sure the products are differentiated enough to warrant a different buying experience a-la Toyota/Lexus or Nissan/Infiniti.

Even today, the Caddy's are sold through Pontiac/Buick/Cadillac stores...so you could have bought a G5 or a CTS at the same place.
If it flies, floats or f#%&s...rent it.
