Hi, I just purchased a new Civic Sport Sedan 09 that comes with 16" aluminum-alloy wheels with P205/55 R16 all season tires. Prior to this Civic, I was driving a Saab 03 Sedan and I still have with me all the 4 winter tires along with the regular steel (i.e. not alloy) rims. The winter tires and rims from that Saab are both 15". The tires spec is P195/60 R15. So, do you think is there any problem to put my old 15" tires and rims mentioned above to my new civic? Please advise... Thank you in advance! Michael

Your speedo will be off by about 3%....but beyond that, not a huge deal. Although I'd be kinda surprised if the actual rims fit properly on the car... |

Are the wheel pattern, offsets, etc. the same?
Do you mean if they take same amount of bolts and the distance / offset between them in comparison with my civic?
I know both of them take 5 bolts. I haven't had a chance to measure the bolts offset between my civic and my old set of steel rims. But if the offset is the same for both and the old rims fit, so should I say it is ok to drive with?
Thanks again for your valuable feedback!

You might want to read through this: http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp?type=wheels#offset . There's more to it than just the number of holes and how far apart the holes are. I took a quick look on the 1010 website, and it seems that an '03 Saab has a 5/100 bolt pattern with a 41mm offset. I couldn't find anything for an '09 Civic, but the '08 took a 5/114.3 bolt pattern with a 46mm offset. So, no, it doesn't look like the rims will fit. You can play around with it yourself here: http://www.1010tires.com/wheels.asp . |

Sorry, I meant bolt pattern. If both rims have the same bolt pattern and offset (not sure on how close the offset has to be?), I think that you are probably good to go....I might be forgetting the hub size (centric?)...maybe someone from 1010tires can confirm this?
I think that some of the older Civics had 4x100mm bolt pattern. Others have the 5x114.3mm with a 50mm offset based on what I have read.
A Saab 9-3 owner posted that his rims were 16x6.5, with 5x110mm bolt pattern and a 41mm offset.

Thanks for feedback again... seem they wouldn't fit...
Anyhow... what would any of you recommend?
1) Buying a 4 new 15" steel rim that would fit my civic using my old 15" winter tires 2) Buying new 16" winter tires that fit with my alloy rims from OEM 3) Buying both tires and cheap steel rims with them? I heard that people don't suggest/recommend to run allow rims in winter time as road salts will damage the rims?!?
Thanks! |

Option 1) will work. Of sell them to another Saab owner and buy new rims and tires. |

Information gathered from the Net is not alway reliable. Always double and triple check any information. A bolt pattern of 110mm doesn't sound quite right to me....seems a bit odd.
Michael, did you measure the bolt patterns on both rims? If they don't match, then the rest doesn't matter.

Saabs are a bit odd..... But 110 is right. The old Saabs were 108 IIRC |

The old tires aren't ideal, and might even be a bad idea (compare the load ratings), so I'd leave them on the old rims and sell the lot. Probably an easier sale that way, too.
I'd then buy a new set of rims with the proper size winter tires for the car. You can go with either steel or aluminum. Steel is cheaper and easier to fix if you hit a curb, but aluminum is (usually) lighter and looks better.
I've had a set of aluminum rims on my Civic for seven winters now. They still look good and hold air fine, but you might not be as lucky with all the salt they use back east. |
