Sounds like a pretty good upgrade from my 2008 GTI.  Will have to wait another 2.5 years before the lease is over.  Hopefully they will increase the HP by than or offer 4motion, that would be the cherry on top!!

The Golf Wagon TDI w/DSG Comfortline and a few options (ESP, rear air bags, premium audio) is very tempting... only thing missing on that car that I'd really like is dual climate zone. Maybe in a few years when certified pre-owned start showing up...  Smiley

Maybe it's the poor qualit of the pics, but those interior shots do not reflect the levle of quality (materials and design) I have come to expect of VW.  That dash loos like it could have been extracted from any pedestrian Japanese or Korean econobox.

The steering wheel in particular photographs poorly, imho.

I think unless you really set up a shot well, all interior shots make an interior look disappointing tbh.

I like the golf, I saw a new GTI out and about today in fact.  But I much prefer the Scirocco...

Here's a few questions to all recent VW owners...

1) 2.5L owners... how's the real-world fuel mileage?

2) Also, does anyone know if the new generation of TDIs is better at warming up during winter? Our '04 TDIs weren't terrible, but it's night and day compared to our V6 Sportage which warms up within minutes (small engine + not very good consumption = lots of wasted fuel = lots of heat = good in winter! Grin)

3) Any worries about the DSG? I've read reports that its even better in the 2010 models than in previous years, but am kind of worried with recent recall on it...

See, I'm starting to consider buying a Jetta Wagon in about two years, and am now wondering if the 2.5L does a good enough job, or if TDI is the way to go. I mean, it's $2800 more. Before, when it was the 2.0L vs TDI, it was a no-brainer... but now, the 2.5L has more than enough power and seems reliable... so it's a much tougher question I think.

Looking at Golf Wagon DSG Comfortline w/Multimedia Package, Rear side airbags in Blue Graphite Pearl. Yum Yum I'm not against the sunroof, but at almost $2000, I'd pass. Out of this package, the only thing I'd be missing is the dual zone climate control that the GTI has standard... but I could do without this.

As usual, VW keeps all the cool stuff in Europe. The Scirocco could replace the 3-door GTI and be paired up with the 5-door GTI.  Tin Foil Head  Grin

The European Golf as a bunch of cool engines (TSI) and all the models have optional DSG (6 and 7 speed).  Here the engines are limited and the DSG is only available on the GTI and the diesels.  I guess the "new world" 2.5L is not DSG compatible.  Personally, I would get a good old manual.  The DSG is an interesting option but I think that it would just stay in the D position after a few weeks.

If you're asking that question, look for a TDI

They're probably even worse as the engine is more efficient.

Get a stick? AFAIK the only difference is down to software.

I don't doubt that. Some people just expect the engine to warm up in .5s. Gas engines take a while to warm up, diesels take a bit more. If you're cold, turn on those heated seats.

It's not being cold I'm worried about... it's seeing out of the windshield!! With our TDIs, we'd be stuck driving with some frost frozen inside of the windshield for a few minutes before it'd go away... that's not ideal, that's for sure.

Thanks for answering my question about the real-world fuel mileage...  Roll Eyes

Oh, and your answer about the DSG reliability was even better... Thanks again!

I think that at this time the DSG is INTRINSICALLY less reliable than a manual transmission and maybe less reliable that a torque converter automatic.

It has a mandatory service, fluid and filter every 64,000 km which is not very long.
It has a lot, more I bet than a conventional auto, of actuators and solenoids and relays all of which have to keep on working.

This is not to say that, maybe, a 2016 version of a DSG won't be more reliable than a current one, probably it will be as a more mature technology then.
