It's generally common for people to import vehicles into Canada from the U.S., however, I haven't heard much about importing a vehicle from Europe.  From what I've been able find out, only cars that are 15 years of age or older are permitted into Canada from Europe, however I haven't been able to find much info beyond that.

Some questions I have are whether used cars in Europe are affordable enough that it makes it worthwhile importing them and whether the procedures involved are any different than importing a vehicle from the US.

Any info would be great!

Just call the Registrar of Imported Vehicles.  They'll be able to answer you question correctly....

A vehicle that is NOT specifically a US spec or Canadian spec vehicle  can only be imported if it is 15 years old or more. It has been that way for a long time.  ( 1971)

Last year there were rumours that the age might be changed to 25 years but nothing has happened yet. What DID happen in some provinces is that getting such a vehicle through a provincial safety check became more difficult.

Re affordability

You can browse "Germany's biggest vehicle marketplace online" Mobile.de.
