I've found that it is much more difficult to save money buying from the US if you're paying for shipping. If you are physically in the States, it's possible to save a lot. We saved enough on the summer tires for the Subaru (and the dollar was less than 90cents) to pay for the gas and our accommodations. So, we got a free vacation to Montana. |

My latest tire purchase was from a Canadian company (former sponser). With the high shipping rates from TireRack it was cheaper to buy from a Canadian supplier. |

If you are close to the border and can have stuff shipped to a parcel drop then it often makes sense. The extra shipping costs and brokerage fees involved in shipping to Canada often eat up most or all of the savings. Bringing items across the border yourself also often saves duty. I've never been asked about the country of origin of goods I'm bringing in by car and have only ever been charged HST, never duty. |

I tried to buy tires from Costco once. They would not sell them to me because the winter tires had a different speed rating than my summer performance tires. No joke. A HUGE difference in pricing is with performance tires. Night and day. Even with the shipping, I save hundreds compared to buying over here. |

Yeah, I HATE that. My Forester has H-rated as the spec, and I do not want H-rated snow tires. No Costco shopping for me then. |

One local Mazda dealer basically called me an idiot for not going with H Rated tires. Luckily the other Mazda dealers had proper Q to T rated winter tires.
I figure buying at Tire Rack or Discount Tire will save me about $80-$100. I found some people on craigslist in the US selling nice OE alloy wheels for about the same price as OE steel wheels here. |
