Leaves quite a bit of residual oil in the crankcase and I'm sure bits and pieces of this and that which should really be drained out.


That's exactly what came to my mind when I read this.  Gravity is our friend! Smiley


To know if it works on your car, use the extractor.  Cut the end of the tube to a bevel to ensure it is flat near the bottom of the pan.  Pump as much as possible out, and then drop the drain plug, and see how much more comes out.  If nothing more comes out (as the case with my cars) then you're good to go.

Alright, here's the promised, and much awaited (by whom, i don't know.  ROFL    ) review.

I did my oil change yesterday.   specifically, i changed oil, oil filter and air filter. 

after a good drive (approx. 35 km), i started pumping out the old oil using my new PELA oil extractor using the dipstick hole.

i pumped until my arms fell off, then switched hose position then pumped some more. 
let it sit for a few minutes, i decided to change air filter while waiting.  it is freakin easy to take it out but B!tch to put one back in.  old one looked brand new but was wrinkled funny.

then I pumped some more, until just trickle of oil came out.   

i, then, took out the old oil filter....  damn, it was another B!TCH to take off.  i'm so buying an oil filter wrench. (i borrowed one from a friend, but it was stuck on so tight.)

then, put in a new WIX filter, then poured new oil in.  Mobil 1 5W-30 i got on sale at CanTire.

put in the whole 4.4L jug and then some(it only take about 4L...  I was an idiot, i for some reason thought it needed more.)
ran the engine few seconds...  checked the level, and I was like "what the funk!!!"  ... then i check the spec, i overfilled it.
so, using the Extractor again, i siphoned some out. till the oil level sit flush on the dipstick's top level.

...  so, in the end, the extractor worked well.   it only left about at most less than ~100ml of residual oil, by my calculation.
AND the waste oil can be put back into empty oil bottles really easy, .  you can just pour it into your now empty oil jugs. hardly soils your hands.  (if you are careful taking the oil filter out, that is.  Smiley )

but the time it took me to pump it all out,...  i could have lifted it up on the jack and be done sooner.

I still think it's good buy, if your car's oil pan is designed to be pumped out easily using the extractor, and has easily reached oil filter..     but for me, i won't use it for oil changes anymore.

maybe for transmission oil change later in the future, i will try using it again.  it came in real handy for adjusting the over-fill, though, eh.  Wink   Grin

after the oil change, the engine is slightly smoother on cold start.   0 degrees we've been having in the morning, when i start the car, it caused some rackets, before this oil change.

anyhoo, there you go!!  if you are averse to laying on the ground for oil change, and has a car you can use extractor for, go for it!!!

You don't need an oil filter wrench to get stuck filters off.  A long screw driver stuck through the side works wonders....


Ohhhhhhh...you have to arm pump the thing?  I thought you had the model that hooks up to your air compressor and does all the work for you...
