I was roaming around various automotive forums and I found a link to a federal government auction in the Ottawa area.  I've never been to an auction, so I'm curious.  I was just wondering if it's a good place to get a deal ... if you're lucky.  Most of the vehicles seem in poor shape and have a high mileage but the vehicles from Environment Canada caught my attention.  Me thinks emission testing.

2008 Acura RDX - 6468 km     ...Turbo Diesel  Thinker
2008 Infiniti E35 - 6964 km
2008 Infiniti G37S - 6595 km   Shocked
2008 GMC Canyon Crew - 3281 km

Those are some of the most interesting items.  I'm assuming that there are a lot of people going to these auctions and you end up paying close to market price.  Could I get a G37S for $10?  Grin

So what's up with all those luxury cars at Environment Canada? I'd give them diesels and hybrids, not G37s, they're environmentalists after all..

I'd bet 1$ that any of the diesels and other weirdies like Audi A2 and Renault Clios and ssuch would come marked that they cannot be registered for road use.

I have seen the Audi and the Renault at a TO auto show a few years back

It is a narrow policy to suppose that this country or that is to be marked out as the eternal ally or the perpetual enemy of England. We have no eternal allies, and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow.

My sister purchased a motorcycle from one of these federal government auctions a few years ago. I zipped over to take a look at it for her, it had been used for Transport Canada brake testing and had holes drilled in the brake pads for thermocouples and the brake levers had been modified for use with some kind of automated test jig. Anyway, the bike had <200km on the dial and was in brand new condition. She ended up buying it for about 60% of retail price.

There are some good deals to be had if you can personally go look at the vehicle, or have a trusted friend look at it for you.
